Soldering 8awg wires to Deans
Hello,
so many ways to solder with different connectors and better connector choices but i kept my deans. i have to admit that i am just lazy to replace all my batteries with bullets... thats all. i am not going to say dean is the best but many people and most people still use deans and most batteries comes with deans. i also understand that deans were made or created when lipos weren't available for any type of hobbies. lets just enjoy our hobby~
i used
-Dremel
-60watt $7 one with flat head
-Acid core solder
-flux
soak it with solder, dremel and solder to deans
hope this gives some idea you with thick wires and DEANS~

I don't know why but for some reason it seems like a bit much I don't usually go below 12/13 gauge wire.. You are right though, Deans plugs still rock and I would be too lazy to switch over to bullet style connectors too

Yes...I have too many of them and still works.

acid core solder should never be used for electronics
If you use it on a circuit board, it will slowly eat away at the traces/etc and you end up with a useless piece of electronics...
Use rosin core solder

A nice soldering station cost about 60 - 70 dollars these days, it's very user friendly and allows you to fine control the temperature. I would recommend it when soldering with heavy gauge wires

I don't think he's being testy.. Sounds more like he didn't know and figures that since he has to switch everything now he might as well get the bullet connectors instead of the dean's plugs

Read it again and you're probly right I had a buddy use acid flux (not acid core solder) unaware that you shouldn't and he hasn't had any connector issues as of yet. At a minimum I would stop using it..

I'm probably picking up a soldering station soon so this is good info to know for me don't want to go and buy the wrong wires
jaja I like that you put the word 'yet' in there

Just a FYI the general consensus on Deans connectors is that they are rated up to 50A and anything over that is pushing it... If you are working with 8AWG wire which is rated well over 50A you are playing with fire... You might want to save yourself a few bucks down the road in blown up batteries/fried esc's and replace those with bullets...
