Default 2s balance extension

Wanting to get a longer extension for my balance plug. Why is the longest I find is around 12"? Could I make it longer without trouble?

You can daisy-chain them if you like... at about 3' it becomes a bit too much.

2S

3S

up to 6s you can plug a 2S into a 3,4,5 or 6S, align the black wires....

The main concern is the increased cable resistance, which increases the error in the voltage reading seen by the charger. The cells will be at a slightly higher voltage than read by the charger if much balancing is going on.

Not ideal, but some do use longer wires without issue. Using a little larger wire, and avoiding adding any more connections than necessary, will help avoid problems.

Well took an servo extension and spliced it in. My 8" is now 16" witch is about right little shorter than my charge lead. Found new end there only rated at 3 amps but 20 gauge wire should be ok.

I you have a good quality DVM/MM I would check cell voltages after charging with the longer cables to make sure you're not overcharging.

What charger is that & did it peak?

I look for 4.19+ per cell & that has been on:
Ice, Imax B6 & B8, GTpower & others...

Older "Blinkies" would do 0.02v max imbalance, newer stuff hold in the 0.01v threshold

Well since I only got around 4.12 what would be a better charger to get?

I know Hyperion says to limit the length of their balance leads to 8". Other chargers leads have been mentioned as short as 6".

but in theory I should be higher on my charge with a longer run correct? 4.12 on a 2 hour rested charged pack or should I take a reading sooner. Maybe my accucell isn't very precise.

I use an Hyperion 615Duo to get 4.20V/4.22V (tricky without balancing) or 8.40V/8.44V charges per whatever racing rules I need to comply to. Peak charge voltage is easily adjustable.
