Soap and I both ran the Team Powers 21.5 in the USGT class at the big EOS race here in San Antonio last Sunday. We both ran Max timing but different FDRs (4.0 and 4.4) on a big track but not as open as we had in the past. I was using my back up car, which was far from perfect, and still was 1.5 seconds a lap faster than the day before with a very good practice motor and my primary car. Really liking the Team Powers motor.

Which we will assume is the 4.4, since he mentioned "Soap" first...

What size is the track.

I was told to go 4.1 at my track with 170' straight

Just so you know, JayL. I'm subscribed to a thread called "Whatever JayL is subscribed to". New feature, hard to find. :-)

Default Plutonium vs. Actinium for mod TC?

Plutonium vs actinium for modified TC? Anyone used both and can tell me the difference?

I've have run both extensively. The Plutonium is a good motor that responds to timing/turbo boost very well. The Actinium is a faster motor that has a bit more rip on the bottom end so being careful with the amount of timing boost you run is a good idea, then tune turbo boost to your desired top speed.

Let me know what speed control you are running and I can help out with a setup for either.

FYI, I've run a 4.5t Plutonium/Actinium and a 5.5t Actinium in mod TC.

Best,
Ethan

Thanks Ethan! I'll need to get off my butt and order one first. Will be a few weeks before I get on the track with one. I run Orca and SP GT2.0Pro for mod. The track isn't huge and I've run with and without boost with various 4.5 and 5.5t motors, lap times are the same at the end but some setup is better for "racing".

How long is your track's straight? What is the typical motor timing setting and FDR for the 4.5t actinium for non-boosted? boosted? also what does your esc settings look like for boosted?

On the Actinium I generally run an 8.0 final, this is on tracks varying in size from 100' straight to 150'. I usually just adjust the amount of turbo I run or my end point on the radio. I do happen to have settings for the GT2.0 pro.

I'd run the following:
Version: v3.0_120428STOCK (software)
1: for/brake
2: custom/18 (drag)
3: 2.8V
4: 2 (ddrs)
5: 100
6: 25
7: drag
8: 9%
9: 5 (boost)
10: 3 (slope)
11: Disable
12: 8 (turbo)
13: 7000 (turbo start rpm)
14: 0 (delay)
15: 700

Note, I also run -1 physical timing on the motor, which is -7 degrees. I find it smooths out the bottom end a bit more. This is especially important on any of the Hobbywing variants, as they add static timing when boost is enabled.

I meant to also say that for a shorter track drop the turbo as needed to go slower. The bottom end should stay smooth enough. You can also drop your EPA (on radio) to 90 without touching the turbo, which should keep the speed control from hitting turbo range on tracks that are pretty short.

Ethan,
What FDR and motor timing for non-boost say for just mod software? What should the motor temp after a run?
Setting for slope; 3 as in setting #3 for 12deg/0.1s or 3deg/0.1s?

I'm actually surprised the fdr is so low. I shouldn't question since I never used this motor but comparatively speaking on a 100' track I typically run high 8's to low 9's for FDR both boosted and non-boost mod 4.5 to 5.5t. SP/LRP/ORCA.

Thanks,
TEM

I haven't run regular mod software in a long time, I don't remember if it even has turbo. My motors usually come off at about 170 degrees Fahrenheit. Slope is 3deg/0.1s.

The Powers motors like higher RPM, and don't usually have a ton of bottom end, so a lower FDR seems to work better. That said, I ran the Plutonium at 8.4 for quite a long time and it worked fine also, just adjust other settings to get the speed you desire. Given a 100' track, running a higher FDR is certainly reasonable.
