Charging Life on Lipo charger

hi

i have an rc-power 601bc charger which doesn't have a Life mode. i was wondering if i could safely charge life packs and if yes what settings? i am willing to charge life rx packs. charger has pb, nimh, nicd and lipo charging modes

thanks

Can you set/change the cut-off voltage for Lipo mode? It is probably set at 4.20V/cell as default for Lipo. If you can adjust it, change it to 3.60V/cell and it will charge your LiFe packs fine. They both use the same CC/CV charging method, only the cut-off voltage is different between the two types. If you do change it, don't forget to change it back to 4.20V/cell when charging Lipos again.

If you can't change it, you could charge it on Lipo mode, and watch until it gets to 3.60V/cell then just stop the process manually. I wouldn't really endorse this method because there is a risk of overcharging the cells, but it will work in a pinch.

This charger?

It looks like an Accucel-6charger which can charge LiFes, but says nothing about charging LiFe, just li-poly and li-ions as far as charging lithiums go.

According to the manual, this is not a LiFe capable charger -

It is only for Lipo and Li-ion type batts. This charger has distinct charging modes for only these two lithium type batteries rather than using a voltage parameter thats changed in user setup like my Accucel-6 does.

But isn't the cut off for li-ion 3.6? That's why the have a different setting. Just throwing it out there.

it got li-poly/ion mode

i can set amps and voltage (shown as "3.7V(1S)","7.4V(2S)" etc)

Not sure which Li-Ion actually winds up in RC useage, there's a few types depending on materials, but those shown here are all at 4.2v/cell. Li-phosphate is LiFe....

So, I don't think you can use a lithium Li-Ion setting to charge LiFe. Looks like li-Ion charge mode would overcharge LiFe. These current LiFes are not as robust as the original a123 formulation that was patented. These RC oriented LiFe batts are more sensitive and are developing a rep for puffing for no apparent reason.

LiFe is Lithium phosphate, its not the same lipoly or li-ion. The cell min amd max voltages are different, their lower that li-poly / Li-Ion cells.

For LiFe, charger would have something you could set at 3.3v/cell. What you have will overcharge an LiFe
