Will work fine with a 4s lipo pack. Not voltage regulator needed.

Only problem is the 2200mah lipo might be a bit small for the big motor that the box uses. If I was you I'd pick up a 5000mah 20c 4s pack from HobbyCity.

A couple of those Turnigy packs would work fine. Of course instead of buying two 2s packs you could get one 4s HobbyCity pack. Then you wouldn't have to deal with wiring up a series connector.

Lipo vs gell cell is up to you. A 4s lipo pack will have more power and will be a lot lighter than a gell cell. Positive of the gell cell is you don't have to baby them like lipo's. When I ran a gell cell I hooked it straight up to my power supply to charge it. Your call.

A gell cell will also have more capacity being its a 7ah battery (7000mah). It def weighs more and tends to make hauling the box around a chore. With a lipo you also need to protect it from overdischarging (discharging below 3v/cell or 12v for a 4S can damage and ruin the lipo). You could get a low voltage alsrm (sold on ebay for < $10) that would alert you that the lipo needed re-charging. Gell cell wouldn't have teh problem.

I'm using 2 gell cells both set up on a float style charger - this kind of charger is always plugged in and maintains the batt at optimum conditions. All I have to do is put the cell back on charge when I get home from using the box. You can get a float type charger on Harbor freight for ~ $10.

I plan on trying lipo when either of my cells give out.

Questions??

thanks guys

thats why you guys are the pro's because honestly i did see the 7Ah but i just didn't know what it meant.

After kcobra told me "A couple of those Turnigy packs would work fine. Of course instead of buying two 2s packs you could get one 4s HobbyCity pack. Then you wouldn't have to deal with wiring up a series connector". i went an did a youtube search

Part 1
youtube.com/watch?v=sGgGH9pxAGA&playnext_from=TL&videos=32Lrkw gadHs

Part 2
youtube.com/watch?v=QSNYKgnn11A&playnext_from=TL&videos=NDF7eU LYoAM

And i decided on two of these in 5200mah @ 14.8v Right
Turnigy 5200mAh 2S 30C Hard-Case Car Lipo Pack
hobbycity.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=10277

now Duster_360 got me thinking gel cell half price, more 7000mAh BUT Heavyer, less voltage/less cranking power

Charger
Bantam E-Station BC6DX NiCad/NiMH/LiIo/LiPo/LiFe/Pb Balancing Charger (AC/DC)
amainhobbies.com/product_info.php/products_id/171135/n/Bantam-E-Station-BC6DX-NiCad-NiMH-LiIo-LiPo-LiFe-Pb-Balancing-Charger-AC-DC

Multiple line display was a big draw with all the setting for lipo, if you know one better & cheaper let me know

Sounds like you are buying all this stuff new? Is that correct? If so here are my recommendations:

1. Ofna Truggy starter box. More power than the big Ofna chrome top boxes at less than half the weight. Ofna part number OFN10244.

2. Lipo or gell cell. That's been pretty much covered. A pair of Turnigy ~5000 mah 2s lipo packs will work fine. If you are going with the truggy box then you don't need 5000mah. You could save money by picking up a ~3000mah 4s lipo pack.

3. IMO Bantam chargers are to expensive. If you want name brand then go with Hyperion. If you are just charging starter box batteries and receiver packs then I'd go with a cheap charger at HobbyCity like the Turnigy A-6-10 200W charger. If you are going with 5000mah packs you want at least an 80 watt charger. That would allow you to charge a 4s 5000mah pack at close to 5 amps (i.e. 1c). If you go with the 200w charger then you can charge the pack at 2c.

An alternative to both lipo packs and gell cells is an A123 pack. They are light weight like lipo's but you can abuse them even worse than a gell cell. Voltage is 3.6v charged compared to 4.2v for a lipo cell. In my Ofna truggy boxes I run 4s A123 packs. You buy a Dewalt A123 drill battery off ebay for ~$50 and break it down for the cells (8 in total). Then you solder up your pack. A bit of work but it rocks to not have to worry about discharging the pack to low or leaving to much charge in it like you have to with lipos.

Anyways, hope this helps.

Questions??

yes all new stuff, looking to get into 1/8 on-road
i have been following RC for a will now 1998ish i just never got one.

So the ofna truggy box will not work very good with on-road car seeing that i would have to turn the car sideways on that box witch i also want to use as a car stand, and
Ofna Cable, Glow Plug Cable, Power Panel [OFN92572] amainhobbies.com/product_info.php/products_id/7876/n/Ofna-Cable-Glow-Plug-Cable-Power-Panel
Is that known to be reliable?

Its a Brand name?
i just wanted a charger with all the features for lipo.
I want to charge the car RX battery, starter box battery, Tx battery, Glow Ignitor???

A123 sounds intersting but thats alot a work an i SUCK at soldering

That AC/DC charger prob has limited power - AC/DCs usually are limited to 50watts and there's nothing wrong with it, its just a high end type AC/DC charger. You can get pretty much the same features in a $55 Thunder AC-6 charger from Hobbypartz. This is also a 50watt charger, but at the other end of teh cost spectrum -

http://www.hobbypartz.com/thac6smbachw.html

It will do all chemistries and is a balancing charger with storage mode for lipo as well.

Here's a local thread about he AC-6 - http://www.rctech.net/forum/radio-el...6-charger.html

Most people, including me, think the Ofna power panel with glow plug cable is a good idea until they use it. The cable just get's in the way. Most everyone uses a separate ignightor.

Mugen makes an onroad box. Should be good as their offroad box is very good. Light and powerful.

LOL now i look at it u guys are right i could buy TWO of those "Thunder-AC6 Chargers for one Bantam E-Station BC6DX an still have change.

youtube.com/watch?v=pQIancXVHV8[/url]
I watched that video like 5-6days ago an thought to my self "if he has all those chargers an likes that one it has to be a great charger" i just didn't follow up on it.

was at the rc track yesterday an forgot to ask the guy that has one of those starter boxes what he thinks about the Wired glow igniter, BUT he uses a separate glow igniter also

Starter-box MUST be universal 1/10-1/8 On and Off road never know, a little disposable income might come along so i can buy more kits
