Any update on the improved brakes for the 508? Got my first big race of the carpet season this weekend.

Unhappy

I have a question/problem to ask about a Hobbywing 120A V2.1 with V1.08 120504 and V3.0 Stock 110930 firmware. The ESC is set to “Forward/Brake” setting and It seems to have “drag brake” activated even though the “drag brake” is set to 0%. If I run the “brake force” at 100% the car slows down like it has ALOT of drag brake activated. The less brake force I run the less drag brake the car has. So I’ve had to run the ESC at 25% brake force so the car can roll on off throttle. Thing is I need brakes too!

In case your wondering the “reverse force” is set at 25% as well and that seems to increase the drag brake effect the more reverse force I use. Is this a common problem and Is there any way to rectify this? As far as I know I'm using the correct firmware for this ESC.

Did you recalibrate the ESC to your radio after updating the software?

Yes I'm pretty sure I did, but I'll go and do it again just in case.

Would not recalibrating my radio give it a 'drag brake' effect tho?

Deff sounds like a esc calibration issue.
If your near Logan next weekend, come hunt me down in the pits, be happy to help out and give some suggested settings

Very possibly, because when you calibrate you are telling the speedo where your endpoints and neutral are. If the speedo thinks your neutral position is actually a little bit of brake then it'll do the same thing as drag brake. Also you mention turning the brakes up increases the drag brake effect which is exactly what would happen if your calibration is off to the brake side at neutral.

Ed
I recalibrated the ESC to the transmitter again and it has worked.

I'll be racing Wed and Sat this week Ed, would be interesting to swap some boosted settings. Tricky situation at Logan with turbo but I think ive finally found the answer to that by trolling this forum to no end! Will pm you my settings later.

Cheers
Jase

So just want to clear the air that after all that troubleshooting, it turned out I had a damaged sensor board on my Speedpassion Ultra Sportsman V3 motor. The Justock ran fantastic with a new V3 motor.

I am very impressed with the performance of the Justock that I will be buying a few more in the future. Its almost on par with my Tekin RS for the racing that I'm doing.

does the HW 2.1 have the ability to let the user know if it is running in sensored or sensorless mode? A blink code, led color etc?

I don't think so, but I could be mistaken. Usually though, if it goes into sensorless mode on a sensored motor, you'll have really bad cogging issues.

I unplugged the sensor wire and the motor seemed the same to me. hence why I wanted to verify, lol. It acts like it is sensored even without the sensor.

Any news on the brakes for the 508. Seems that we may have to run with no brakes again.
