Default XL5 on 3cell LiPo?

According to Traxxas, the XL5 will work with up to 9.6v input (8 NiMh cells).

Has anyone ran one (successfully) on a 3 cell lipo, 11.1v?

I have an XL5 in a scale rock crawler, and I want to go to 3 cells in it. I actually ran it for a couple of mins last night in the basement without a problem - then I realized I'd better check the specs on the ESC.

Clearly it will work, but I don't think it will last very long. If you are like me then you will probably run it anyways until it goes, then you will have a good excuse to go brushless!
