These cheapo 2.4G are not very good. A guy at the track used it and he got interference only about 30ft/10m away. I told him to switch to an entry level Futaba 2.4G and the problem went away.
Dont go cheap on radio equipment. Get something that's proven. A good set will last you many many years! As I still see people use EX1-Mars (more than 10yrs old) at the track.

Ok, thanks for the info. I use spectrum right now and it works for me great, but i was just querious in the performance in a $50 dollar radio, i guess it's true what they say "you get what you pay for".

you can buy a tactic 2.4 ghz with a reciever for less than 100 bucks.
these are the same radios that come with the aquacraft ul-1 boat and they work great .
i have a spektrum dx3r and i was getting all kinds of glitching when racing my boat. the guys runnning the cheapo tactic radios were running all day with not one glitch. the tactic receivers are like 35 bucks and they dont even require an antenna. go figure.

+1 on the Tactic, got one with a Vendetta rallye, bought extra rx and now running it with my Inferno GT also. Like it much better than the cheesy stock Kyosho radio.
Spektrum has just put out The DX3E. TX and RX under 100 bucks. It only has one model memory. If you are on tight budget I would try to find a used DX3. It will have 4 model memory as well as expo that the DX2 does not have. I have seen the DX3's used for 50 - 75 bucks.

All the companies just came out with okay 2.4 systems for like $100 Futaba 2pl 2.4 Airtronics has 1 also and spectrum, for like $185 I belive KO has the EX5 which comes with 2 recievers. 1 or 2 of these only requires 4 aa batts also. I like my KO EX1-UR w/KO 2.4 its not an old model but it will be when I am done with it LOL.

I had a Tower 2.4GHz radio (same as the Tactic) and had interference problems. It didn't seem like it was external interference, but interference from itself. I could use the steering to control throttle...basically, if I turned left or right, the throttle would kick and keep going until I let go of the steering. I tried a couple of RXs and the same thing. I'm not sure if it was an interaction problem with my ESC or a problem with the radio itself. I returned it before I could troubleshoot anymore and picked up a KO Propo EX-5 instead. The EX-5 is a very nice radio. I've yet to play with all the features. I haven't tested range on it yet so hopefully I get good range and no interference in the areas I run. I might pick up another radio for my wife in the future (once I'm less broke) and am thinking about the Airtronics units. The Futaba 2PL looks nice too, but I'm not sure if the FHSS has any problems since Airtronics is now on FHSS-2 and FHSS-3 with their systems. The cost of the Airtronics, both MX-Sport and MX-3FG, isn't much more than the Futaba 2PL. There's lots of low-cost options now. The good thing about the 2PL is the RXs are cheaper, but you can only use that specific RX whereas with the Airtronics, I think you can use any Airtronics RX. The KO RXs are tiny and really easy to fit anywhere.

Some of the greatest guys you'll find in this hobby!
I have 2 of these radios and they have been flawless. I bought mine from the same guy. All the features of the high end radios without the high end price. I was skeptical so I only bought one, once I used it for several weeks I turned around and bought another.

Just for accuracy sake I did want to add that the DX3R is not marine capable and not recommended for use on the water. Spektrum has now updated the DX3S and released the DX2S and DX3E which are all Marine compatible. Also one thing of note is that while this might be a bargain radio where are you going to find receivers and accessories for this radio? Also the DX3E is compatible with all the Spektrum DSM and DSM2 receivers, including the MR3000 marine receiver I mentioned. The Tactic is only compatible with that one receiver and those receivers are not compatible with the FAAST systems, so if you ever move up to something more capable you have to reinvest in receivers too.
