I've had good results running Hitec 645s, they've been reliable and are cheap. Have 2 still running in Tmaxxes.

I've been using using the digital version (5645) lately and like it as well.

Thank You for all of the info!!!
I did not even realize all the other off brand name servos were out there. I have just purchased a few used airtronics 358,359's and paid around $50 a piece and they are in good shape. I will still need a few more. I think I am going to try the blue birds bms-617 by the spec's that seems to be the shizzle. I did not even know about Blue Bird servos can someone tell me a little about them? What servo horn matches the splines? Are they a knock off import? ect. What's the deal with the BEC needing 3 amps. What does the airtronics 358,359's pull amp wise?

The Bluebird 617 is a 25 spline (Futaba)

& if your BEC is under powered the servo will actually studder for a split second due to low voltage.

I've used them on 5.7v, 1amp BEC & had the delay problem.
I then switched to 5.7v, 3amp BEC & and the servo came to life.
A 1000uf cap on the receiver would likely help too...
If you put a big enough cap on a low amp BEC it will likely be fine.

You can make your own, $1.50 + a tail off of an old servo or battery holder...

Here is an interesting one a friend & I just came across...
His new Castle MaxPro will shut down with his high dollar JR servo plugged into the receiver while making quick steering movements. He put a couple of caps off of the receiver & it is now fine.
We don't know if it noise from the servo, or too much draw.
Castle is apparently aware of it.

can some one tell me if im wrong but if you convert the Torque of 5.8kg to oz. it comes to 519 in oz is that correct? or am i doing the math wrong can anyone help?

5.8 (kg / cm) = 519.656007 oz / in

Torque is force times a distance (lever arm). Not divided.

5.8 kg-cm = 80.5 oz-in

Don’t know why some sites list the units incorrectly. Maybe bad translations?

Do you think the blue bird servo would be fine running a 3a 5.5v bec? (sphere comp 07)

I haven't tried it at 5.5v, but it is rated down to 4.8v
If the amperage available is good, then you'll likely be fine.
The lower the voltage the more the servo may try to draw.

If you start getting hiccups, then a cap on the receiver should help.

Here is another thing to watch for... I hooked up a Personal Transponder to an old JR Receiver, & there was no output on the BATT terminals. If you plan on hooking a Cap to the BATT on a receiver make sure there is a working connection.

I beat the snot out of a 617 for a couple of weeks in one of my 1/8th buggies. It didn't like it, but it did survive & is my "race" servo in an old Associated T3.

A 1amp BEC won't do it, a 3amp seems fine.

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s....10sec_/_46.5g
After shipping I think it comes out to $25 each...

Here is one I've been looking to try in the future.
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s.../_.12sec_/_58g

If you have an account & "log in" the price drops quite a bit some times.
I just ordered one of the 617's...I'll post later after I test it how well it performs compared to my BLS 451.

I'm using this Kopropo in my TC5 for RCGT and it is working out pretty well for $55: http://www.nexusracing.com/product_i...d6a038885c5a42 I am running a Futaba 9550 in my other 17.5 TC5 and barely notice a difference in performance.

I picked up a Hyperion DS20-FMD a little while ago.

Excellent servo for the money (about $AU50).

Havn't got a thing to say against it.
