I have been doing them for years and stock the cells with the correct tabs.
The cells I use are 80 mah NiMh, vs the original 60 mah NiCad.
$30 each with a one year warranty on the battery and labor, but they should last at least 5 years.

Also, I don't cut the case like some guys do. We have tools we made to split them open properly.

I had Kevin at KRC Products repair a bunch of ours. Now they hold a charge for about 24 hours or so. Had a guy walk off with one after the races and returned it the next day and it was still blinking green He also doesn't cut the cases. He's got some custom made oyster shucker or something to split 'em open...
