please use heatshrink. its cheap and easy to use.
in emergency situations it's not always available. Like I said before it's not going to short out unless you have a severe failure or are running with a lot of metal parts in the car.

I spent the last 3 hours trying to force the leads of the deans plug on my 11.1v LiPO to touch together, like you suggested, just to see what would happen -- and I can't do it.

Any ideas?

come on people. i dont think its rocket science. we are not talking about touching the deans plug terminals together or anything like that.
its more of something shorting the 2 terminals together. like a screw driver when your working on it or the like.
use some common sense. accidents happen cover yourself so these things dont happen.
i have seen a wrench weld itself across the battery terminals before in car.
lots of pretty sparks for a few seconds. and no it was not me that did it.

not sure what a lipo would do though and dont really want to find out.

Edited for novices, I do not condone of running them without heat shrink but it isn't the end of the world. under normal circumstances the leads shouldn't fall off or hit one another. I highly suggest not running without heat shrink if there is any metallic items near the connector.

happy now?
OMG!!! I was joking!!! My comment came from you saying "This is low voltage DC current it doesn't short out easily."

They need to design a batterypack that has no connectors and feeds the engine and speed control with some sort of wireless device. Sounds kind of cool. I mean brushless motors technology is gettin pretty cool so its gonna be cool to se what they come up with next, maybe a nitro motor that dosent flame out. Now that would be killer.

I think they do have wireless power distribution just not feasible for market as of yet. And certainly not for the rc market.

While I wonder how this thread is even still alive, at least it's morphed into something more useful(?) than arguing about connectors.

I aim to please hahaha .

Also, has everyone forgotten that side by side cells aren't insulated either?
It's good practice to keep metallic objects away from your power source.

Wireless power? It's been done already. Look up Nikola Tesla whenever you get a chance. Personally I'd like to see that type of technology make is way into full size cars. Imagine the weight savings not to mention near infinite run times

okay the cells are insulated but the battery bars are not. either way there are exposed contacts.

IF it's that much of a concern for you, they invented this really cool product called Heat Shrink. They make is multiple colors and sizes, so you can insulate nearly anything.

That's my point it's not really needed. I am not concerned about it but it seems everyone is freaking out because I stated that it wasn't needed.

OK, I guess I took what you said in the wrong spirit of things.
This thread sure did get out of control, thanks to a couple of guys with a lot of misinformation and stupidity, and it just never looked back.

Sorry
