Cool moding motors

Hey guys

i have a 27 turn pro motor for racing and it gets a bit boring when im just using it on the streets.

so my plan is to buy a cheap 28 turn motor and unwind the copper in it to make it a 2 turn motor or something for zipping it up and down the street/
so basicly im just asking how easy is it to mod a motor?

hand winding mods is very very difficult.

+1, easier said than done.

I've never even heard of a 28 turn motor. Do they even make a 28T? I am still running mostly brushed motors and I cut my own motors on a lathe but have never hand wound one.

I wouldn't waste the time trying. Most motors have to be epoxy balanced at the factory, and I would assume require precision tools. If the balance is off they sound like hell and don't perform very well either. Also, will your speed control handle a 2 turn motor? If not it could be an expensive expiriment.

Removing winds from motors usually results in a horribly out of balance and short-lived motor. Just buy a low-turn mod if you want to go fast. Brushed motors are DIRT cheap now.
There's also a limit on low turn motors. Below 6 or so, they just aren't practical. Tons of RPM, no torque, ridiculous amp draw. Get a 6 or 7, most places are blowing them out.
