I have a P2K2 motor that is about 6 years old. It does not have much use on it but it has been sitting in my garage. Will the motor still work good, or has it been sitting way too long to perform well? And what about Nimh batteries that have been sitting for that long of time? Thanks

Don't know about the motor for sure, but if its been kept clean and not allowed to get wet (corrode), don't see why it shouldn't work, at least to some degree. Maybe you need to clean it first?

NiMHs self dishcarge. In 6 yrs they are going to be at zero. You can try yo charge them and see what happens, but I wouldn't count on them coming back. Try a a low charge rate like used with a forming or breakin. If they do show some life, cycle them several times to see if they will continue to improve.

The motor should work if it was just sitting there.. clean it out with motor spray.. you should oil the bushings too... take a look at the brushes.. i would personally cut the comm and change the brushes out...

If it's not damaged.. then it should be fine.. folks still use that motor!

The batteries.. well.. they might be ok.. but if they are that old.. they are probably 3000mah? They probably won't be as good as when you last used them even after a few cycles.. and if you are racing.. that's not going to last you these days.. most races are 5 or 6 mins.. and newer motors are pulling a little more power.. mostly because we can gear a bit higher now.. might make it for bashing.. but not racing..

Age doesnt kill motors, corrosion/wear does. Give it a full treatment, and it'll be good. I'm still using a GreenMachine, pretty old but has good top end!

Just pick up some used 4200's from a fellow racer, about $15.

If it's just been sitting there for a few years, that should be all it would need to perform like new... A light cut on the comm to remove any surface oxidation or corrosion, some fresh "F" brushes, and off to the races.

I''d probably go two maybe three teeth higher on the pinion than on a Co27 as a starting point.

Thanks for the replies. I will have to find a lathe to cut the comm and i'll get the brushes. What brushes are good?
