Building a 12v 9amp Power Supply
A guy I work with gave me one of these:
http://www.powersupplydepot.com/prod...oduct=17095+PS
I was wondering what I need to do (as far as the wiring) to complete this to use with a DC charger. I can fabricate a sheet aluminum casing and fan mounts. I'm just not sure how to wire up the 3-pin and 13-pin "connectors" (for lack of a better term). Anyone have a schematic out there that might work? Any info is greatly appreciated!!

Kinda hard to say how to wire it, the 3 pin may be your 110v AC in. I'd suggest if you wanted a cheap but good power supply get a $20 computer power supply and convert it to a DC power supply. Here's a link on how to do it.....http://www.instructables.com/id/Conv...gular-DC-Powe/
A 400 watt pc power supply will give you 12v @ about 15 amps. It will also give you 5v dc and 3.3v dc. Those are good for com lathes and motor break-in. Already has the case and fan as well!

Yes, your right....but part of the wattage is used by the 3.3 and 5 volt rails.

Oh, I see. I thought you could get the full amount of power through any combination of outputs...

There's usally a ratings sticker on the side of the power supply that tells the amps of all three....+12v/+5v/+3.3v
I have a 250 watt one, it's rated at 10amps on the +12v rail.

Computer power supplies work well, just be careful if you open it up. Touching a charged capacitor is a very easy way to kill yourself.
