Default a123 Batteries in RC18?

Can a 3S 9.9 volt a123 batterypack work with the stock RC18 speed controller?

I know the stock speed controller is rated to a max of 8.4V but has anybody tried higher voltages with success?

Instead of the 3s 9.9V pack, I just bought 2S 6.6V packs. They are 1100mAh per pack. I got them from www.rclipos.com.

So far they work great. They are being charged by my Venom Pro Charger.
