A Dying Hobby

Over 40 years, so you grew up in a world w/o computer gaming (pong not included). The kids today do grow up with online gaming, actually it is the 1st thing they come in contact with.

I'm not saying video games aren't part of problem. But it's far bigger then that. I'd put lack of exposure at top of list.
It's not hard getting people interested in the hobby. Racing is different story as it's not easily found in most areas.

A round here at least it seems the "club tracks/ groups" have closed or stopped running. Most places I've seen close where rented buildings and people did it for fun. You almost have to provide some kind of parts or accessorizes to be a good track to run at. I think it comes down to keeping a track is not worth it when you can fill the same space with something profitable.

I'd put that to drones more then video games. And not the just the racing drones, just the regular flying camera ones.
FPV is coming to surface soon. Dromida is releasing their 1/18 rally car with built in FPV.
Lack of exposure is our hobbys biggest issue. Not just racing, in general. Every weekend I meet people that only exposure has been YouTube videos. Met one this weekend that was going to buy an XMaxx just cause he saw it run on water. Never consider that it could sink. He figured the "air" in the tires caused it to float.

Dang they beat me to it, I would think FPV nitro racing would be fun, But the only thing I would see being a problem is 1. what happens after you flip over? what it a marshall put u backwards, or 2 you run off the track and don't know how to get back on course, somehow you'd have to pre program the track somehow I would think to tell you which direction you're going. I also think today there are just so many more options to do, back then 15 years even your knowledge was limited and you kind of did what everyone else could, today you can research what is cheaper and what u might find "funner"

I'm very curious to see how it works with the Dromida. Stock speed with brushed is around 15mph. But that looks really fast at one couple inches off ground. I've heard late September or early October for release.

FPV racing, no thanks, thats about the lamest thing ever I could think of! If thats what gets kids into the hobby, well then, I am not for it. You cant read the track, traffic in front and behind etc. with FPV.
Id hate for our awesome hobby to cater to a bunch of FPV game playing kids! If they want FPV Google Play has a bunch of RC Style games to keep them busy. But please not at my track!
the biggest help for growth is showing our own kids, neighbors kids, friends of our kids etc.
We just had a resurgence in offroad because of ST! And I am glad as that was the class I ran 20 years ago, and am back into now. Such a great class, fun, has heritage and close.

It's 1/18. Haven't read of many places running that scale. I've been part of a 1/18 for fun race group for 4 years. I wouldn't have considered trying USGT or F1 if I hadn't.
FPV is a long way from being able to fully work on surface racing. But for 1/18 it might work. Haven't seen many places running a class based off the Dromida vehicles. But seen a few. 2 of us for the group plan to try them. Find out more in month or so when released

I hear ya, but I think you'll find out very quickly that in today's world, everyone is a game playing kid to a point, If you thinks it's bad now wait until VR gets hotter and it will seem like a real life matrix. Still a long way to go but it will be comming faster than u can wrap your head around, and will only speed things up when A.I gets involved with it.
For the FPV nitro, didn't even think of how bumpy it would be either, good point. A guy at the track strapped a go pro onto his car to watch later and it was pretty cool. I think it would be too hard to make fpv car racing but it is possible somehow.

I'm one of the youngsters you have been discussing. I'm 16 and have been playing computer games for who knows how long, and I discovered rc cars just under a year ago when one of my friends got a 1/5th petrol (single child, not surprised). Anyway, since then I have owned 4 different cars, three of which I still have, and I'm heading to my first major event in a month.
I was very happy when i mentioned rc cars in one of my classes at school and man of my friends around me were like "awe yeah I have a petrol 1/10 at home" and someone else would be like "oh yeah same!", But they always came back to the same thing.
It's broken.
It seems that many of todays generation do see a liking in rc cars and the fun it brings, but very few are able to continue in the hobby if they don't have the time (school, part time work, socialising, etc), if they don't know how to fix the car (more difficult if they all have nitros), and many of them just wouldn't have the time and money to buy all this extra stuff and travel to events.
And so they all end up back where they started, at the easiest thing to access. Computer Games.
