Default Hobby Stop West Raceway New Tamiya F1 class!!

A group of us are trying to get a F1 class going here in Toledo, Oh. So far we have 5 or 7 people with cars in hand, or on order. Below are the rules we are looking to run for this season and make changes if needed. The F1 class is going to race on sundays with every other week counting towards a points championship.

Below are the planned F-1 rules for this years indoor season at the Woodville Mall indoor track in Toledo, OH.

If you have any concern or constructive comments, please reply.

Chassis rules for the Tamiya F104 class

All chassis platforms must be built per
the instruction manual. Altering their basic structure and
design is prohibited.

Tamiya parts only. No parts from other manufactures unless specified within this document.

Any Tamiya Hop-Up Option and spare part is allowed and legal as long as it is used in the way it was designed, and installed on the vehicle it was designed for.

It is strictly forbidden to re-engineer or modify the car in any way other than with Tamiya Hop-Ups or kit supplied accessories.

Chassis lightening (by means of milling parts) is prohibited.

Lightweight screws or adjustable turnbuckles that are made of aluminum, steel or Titanium that are made by other manufactures are allowed. i.e. any
screw or turnbuckle is legal.

The use of thin shims (available at most hobby stores and made available by Tamiya) to space out the slop or play in suspension arms, steering bell-cranks and wheel axles is permitted. Shimming the aforementioned components of the car in a way that alters the geometry of the car or its basic geometry design is not legal.

The use of O-Rings on shock ball ends and camber/steering links is allowed.

Changing the camber-link positions on the car other than the way it was intended is prohibited.

Camber links must be positioned in the mounting holes they were originally drilled for. Drilling new camber link holes is not permitted or legal.

Steering tie-rod linkages, on all chassis platforms, must be attached to the steering knuckle per the instruction manual. Drilling new holes to change
“ackerman” is not permitted. Raising and lowering the steering tie-rod with shims, on the steering knuckle itself to change bump steer is permitted.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ELECTRONICS

Motors: Any ROAR approved 21.5 brushless motor. Adjusting of the end bell is not permitted. The Tamiya Silver can motor is permitted. It is forbidden to crank the timing on the 540-J motor physically or through the use of rare earth magnets.

ESC: Any ROAR approved Sportsman class speed controls. You may view the list here. sportsman ESC list <http://www.roarracing.com/?page_id=737>

Battery: 2 cell lipo not to exceed 6000 MAh capacity. Batteries must be hard case.

Any battery connector or direct hard wiring to the battery is allowed.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Car Body

All Bodies must be made for the Tamiya F-104

All car bodies must be painted and must be cut along the trim lines. You are not allowed to create extra vent holes for the purpose of ventilation or
performance enhancement. Leaving extra material below the trim lines of the body is prohibited.

All car bodies must use the wings that are supplied in the kit. Mixing and matching wings, between different body styles, is not allowed.

In the spirit of keeping the Racing
scale in appearance to the public all bodies should appear to be of a real F1 team or look like it could be a real F1 team. Vintage F1 team colors are permitted.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tires and Wheels

Spec tire: Pit Shimizu pre mounts (Not sure on the compounds yet)

Tire conditioners are allowed on tires.

It is not permitted or legal to drill extra vent holes on the vehicles wheels for the purpose of altering the performance and grip level of the tire. Enlarging the existing vent hole is also illegal.

Disassembling the pre-mounted tires and changing the insert is not permitted.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If a driver finds a loophole within the rules, the exploitation will be deemed illegal at the discretion of the race director.

Pit tires mount on F104 foam rims, which have no vent holes. From past experience, you need to drill vent holes.

I just wanted to let you know that the wheels and tires are not premounts, brad was just mounting them as a curtisy, also you may want to lighten up a little on the rules for adjustments until you find out what works on your track, it is still an unknown.

Will other F1's be allowed to run ? (non points) such as the F109 , F103, or the Hpi F10?
Sounds like a good class for the Woodville track.

At this time no.

Unless Das says otherwise.99% sure its a no

The idea is to promote this class not have a look a like class with
its own rules and cars.

Our class is very close to the Tamiya class, and very close to the class
that is running at IIC.

OK
I get up there at least once a year for the Mini GLC and may try for a couple of other weekends this year. Was just seeing if it I could bring it as an extra class.

Should be a close class with the Tamiya rule set.

If you saw Teds car when it was down there, I actually reamed a hole in every rim because the tires were squaring up on me. And yes I mounted and glued Teds tires so that when he gets it he can install the electrics and go

Here is a small Utube Clip.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UX5Zf...&feature=share

Snap shot on performance
Ted 11.35X
Lon(dasmopar) 11.41X
Mark Rod 11.45X
Me 11.488

The other cars that are in the race had lap times range from 11.5-11.7 even with that its still pretty close for our first week or so.

Those are the fastest laps of the day in the 3rd round or main.

Ted and Lon have a week head start over me and mark

Ted V2 speed passion
Lon silver can
Me V3 locked club racer
No idea what mark has

All seem pretty close

Gearing is close sept for Lon and the silver can

Its hard to tell what Car is mine its a chrome lewis car the other cars are silver

Lon is orange color Ted is the Vettle car.

We had 7 cars, in 2 weeks or so I think we will have 11 or so + if everyone can make it if not the week after

car works good still tuning let me know if you have anything to ask

If the track does not change this week i would guess 11.2s might be in the works, all in all super close race

The class is pretty spec and self policed by Ted and Lon, they are kind enough if your motor is adjustable to ask you to turn it down to as close to Zero as you can.

We would rather see locked motors but will allow anything. (keep them slow motor wont take you from last to first)

All in all the class turned out great
