Curtis, you nailed it. Lets just race and have fun, why should the sportsman and lower mains support the payouts and awards for the bigdogs, with less track time. Thats how it ends up in these series and cash races. Let the track keep the profits so we will have places to race at, they can have an occasional trophy hand out for all racers that attend, everybody likes to win something, once in a while. If you dont support a sportsman class, where will your furture racers come from? I am far from the top and been rc for years but its the people, RC friends, Curtis and Sherri's chicken salad sandwiches, Fanelli's wife's sausage balls, Jay "TEABAG" Millers famous pork chops, Homers campout parties and the joy of the hobby, and the competition within your heat, main, wether its the Amain or the Gmain that keeps most of us coming back. You will never recoup the cash back that it cost to race RC, I once said before, I live 4 miles from one of the best Motocross tracks in the country (Buds Creek) and it wouldbe cheaper to race a year of Hare Scramblers (50-100 mile race thru the woods)once a month, then a year of RC." Don't sweat the small stuff, lets have fun"

Hey strangers! it has been awhile since I seen a lot of you! Glad to see I am not the only one that has dropped off the racing front lately. Several reasons (at least for me) - I don't like traveling to race on Sundays as driving 2 hours each way and getting home at 8pm Sunday night just does not do it for me - that is too long for my 3 year old to be out there with me and then get him ready for school the next day...Saturday's are college football (Go Big Red!), and I won't miss a Husker game - combined with family, vacations, travelling, another kid on the way, etc - means I have not raced in at least 3 months - my sad, lonely STRR is sitting on the bench all cleaned up and ready to go but she has not seen dirt in ages. At this point, I am just going to build a couple new kits over the winter and get back at it in the Spring. Also, too many series with conflicting dates - racers follow other racers it seems, and sometimes a great turnout will be at one track for a series race and the next time there are none there (as they are at another track)?

Great thread!

I'm just getting back into this hobby after being out of it for over a decade. Just got myself an SC10 and have run at The Track in Gaithersburg for the past two weekends for some great indoor bashing fun. I also have a TC6 on order so I can run some sedan action soon.

The Track is my closest venue but am always looking to go where the numbers are. I think this thread may just help in combining a majority of the racers in the area.

Glad someone is spearheading this and will keep on eye on the discussions!

Take care,
AJ

I also think some tracks need to do a better Job of Promoting, that would help them out a bit, but its not the answer to the problem, just one small peice to the puzzle

My point of view of low turn outs. The must do list to get things back on track.

1.All tracks need to have a small series for the club racers.
2.Promote sportsman class @ all tracks
3.Short coarse friendly track
4.The track owners need to respect each others race dates.
5.Need to have both some Saturday races and some Sunday races
more to come

Before we lost 301, I think the class that was growing the most was On-Road 1/5 scale (aside from 1/10 and 1/8) we had close to 20 local drivers!!!
not counting the racers from NY. 1/5 scale drivers were poping from everywere, but now that we dont have a place were to race I have seen some of these drivers migrate to the smaller classes.
I think one of our local drivers visited the Richmond track with his 1/5 scale and it was too small for our class. There was some rumor that we would be able to run at Blue Diamond but I think it was all rumors, or not enough interest. I think the issue of not having a track is in a way all relative. I travelled to LA for a race on a parking lot. Those guys lost a permanent track not too long ago and they kept going.
I just wished we can all get organized and start racing again.

Default Question

This weekend it looks like two tracks are racing on Sunday. Both these tracks are offroad 1/8th and short course. But Neither race much on Sundays and the weekend they do decide to race is the same. ????????????????????????????
P.S. These are the two closest tracks to myself. One of the tracks I have not raced at this year and the other I have raced at 3 times. Things that make you say HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
