NO, he may not know about the "gift" ability of Pay Pal and does not want to get destroyed by fees on a $600 deal. His fees would be pretty high at that dollar amount.

Default cashiers check

always be weary with cashiers check now. The fees would be $17.70 if he's getting $600 Thats nominal in my mind for the extra security of paypal.

I would rather have the protection of using paypal (w/ credit card) than nothing at all.

I don't see where the seller gets anything out of the deal except instant payment.

The buyer is more protected from not receiving the item, but is not protected against item not as described claims. But you could always do a charge back on your credit card.

PayPal is so dang easy, that it should almost be mandatory for anyone who wants to sell something on this great site to have to use it.

For instance, I was going to buy a nice Baja 5B from the guy for $725 shipped. We negotiated everything, then he says "cashier check only". I mean c'mon...who the heck would do that??!! Yes, there is a SMALL PayPal fee, but this site is totally free. The guy had to try to be scamming!!!

Some people don't use Paypal because of the fee's.

Some people don't use Paypal because privelages have been suspended.

I believe "gifting" eliminates some of the protection that Paypal offers. I am a little leary of people that don't use Paypal, but that doesn't mean they are going to scam you. Ask the seller for other forms of "positive feedback" IE other sites or references. If your comfortable with what they provide then maybe no worries.
If the deal is to good to be true, Its probably a scam.

If you are so against not using paypal then ofer to pay the fees on top of your final amount... someone said the fees for 600 would be like 17 bucks.. offer to pay 620 and if he doesnt accept that then i would be weary of him... I just sold something for 300 and asked extra for the paypal fees and the seller had no problem doing it because of the protection....
