GAY.COM????

From what I have seen on the ads here (when I don't have ******* on). It's not so much the individuals browsing history, its key words in the current section that influences what banner is shown. The Mini/Micro section sometimes have gotten things way out there that had nothing to do with us, but had some sort of relevance to Mini/Micro.

I get no banner ads
I still use Firefox 2.0 (firefox 3 has issues with AdAware8) All you need to do to never see them is to download the ******* plus add on for the Firefox browsers
(said to work with 3.0) and select the subscription ( I used the first one on the list based in the US) There is no cost. Enjoying it so far.

That is pretty funny. I was over my friends house and he has a crap computer and out of no where 15 different porn sites popped up and it started constantly making the windows start noise even when the computer has been on for 2 hours. If your getting gay.com ads I would check your computer for bad stuff or do a fresh install. According to this... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AdSense. "There have also been reports of Trojans engineered to produce counterfeit Google ads that are formatted to look like legitimate ones. The Trojan downloads itself onto an unsuspecting computer through a webpage and then replaces the original ads with its own set of malicious ads." So you might have one of these trojan's.
I am on Linux so I feel bad for you guys. Just trying to help.
If you want a fix... UBUNTU.COM. <<<Czech it out.

Them are google adds, so they basically go by your cookies of what you have been looking at previously, and send you only adds to your interest. Obviously you have been looking at some porn and thats why it popped up. Gay porn, I dunno.. Anything ya wanna tell us?? haha.. But honestly thats how it works. Mine are all adds about Minnesota stuff (Since Im from Mn.) and usually sport truck parts.

I was curious, so I disabled ******* plus, and tried reloading pages here at RC Tech and never did see this banner. All of the ones I saw were RC related.

Google uses its search technology to serve advertisements based on website content, the user's geographical location, and other factors. Those wanting to advertise with Google's targeted ad system may sign up through AdWords. AdSense has become a popular method of placing advertising on a website because the ads are less intrusive than most banners, and the content of the ads is often relevant to the website.
Currently, AdSense uses JavaScript code to incorporate the advertisements into a participating website. If the ads are included on a website that has not yet been crawled by the Mediabot, AdSense will temporarily display advertisements for charitable causes, also known as public service announcements (PSAs). (The Mediabot is different from the Googlebot, which maintains Google's search index.)
Many websites use AdSense to monetize their content. AdSense has been particularly important for delivering advertising revenue to small sites that do not have the resources for developing advertising sales programs and salespeople. To fill a site with ads that are relevant to the topics discussed, webmasters implement a brief script on the sites' pages. Sites that are content-rich have been very successful with this advertising program, as noted in a number of publisher case studies on the AdSense site.

If you have proof of what you say....show it! Tell me why in all of the refreshes I did on this site there was never one that had anything to do with fishing, hunting, or real estate. These are probably the things I search for most on line. I go from RC forum to RC forum through my password managing program. Still....all of my Google ads had something to do with RC, or the area I live.
I like how you can make accusations and assumptions about someone you have never met based on something you know very little or nothing about.
You come across looking foolish, and well....sort of like a real jerk.

Wild Cherry, I did not think of this before, but didn't you say something in another thread about you getting some sort of virus through a PM? Maybe it still has a hold. It is something to check out. There are some free on line scanners. I have used Trend Micro's housecall. seems to work well for a back up scanner. Here is a link. http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

An updated anti virus program (AVG has you covered)
A good firewall (some AVG packages come with this) I like Zone Alarm
an active anti spyware program (some AVG packages come with this) I like both Spyware blaster and Comodo BOClean
A couple of passive spyware scanners (Adaware and spybot Search and destroy are what I use.
Since I am cheap, I did a little research and found what I believe to be the best free protection programs out there. In many cases I don't believe that you can find better programs to buy.
A couple of recent things that I have seen talked about on security sites, and while they may be resolved are something to think about.
1- If you have Windows XP and Zone alarm, There is a known (and maybe already fixed) conflict between one of the latest security updates and Zone Alarm. You could get the BSOD.
2- If you have FireFox 3.0 it may not yet be supported by AdAware8.
You can get good advice and tutorials from help sites like bleepingcomputer.com
I am not convinced that you are in the clear yet. Once a worm or virus gets a toe hold in your computer, they do a pretty good job of hiding around. If I were you, I would back up important stuff (pictures email addresses, and the like) and do a clean swipe and system reinstall. Remember how well your computer ran new? This will get you back to there.
