Default DX3S/DX3R Radio Mod Service, EL Backlight & LiPo Conversion

Posted this today over at Socal-RC.com, PM me if some of you are interested...

http://www.socal-rc.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4016

Ok, you asked for it so here it is! I'm going to offer these as a service for local So-Cal members and friends. Just bring or ship me your radio and I can make the mods within a day or possibly within a few hours if I have time. Opening the DX3S/DX3R and tampering with the LCD is not recommended for anyone without electrical engineering expertise. Damage to the digital polarizer is easy also, the LCD is VERY thin glass and extremely fragile! I've done a few systems now with no issues so I'm comfortable opening it up to the public. Prices include all parts and labor. I will schedule payment and drop off times individually via PM. Also would consider trades for a B4, Spektrum receiver, or Tekin RS.

Prices will be as follows:

$5 Power Switch LED Mod -
Remove existing orange LED, change to Blue, Red, or Green (choose one) and Reassemble.

$55 DX3S / DX3R Lipo Conversion w/ 2S LiPo -
Remove AA battery tray, Install 7.4V to 5-6V linear non-LDO Voltage regulator and circuit, Build and install custom 2S 2500mAH removable LiPo with balance port, and Reassemble

$75 DX3S Blue or Red EL Backlight Mod -
Remove Existing LCD screen, Separate reflective and Polarizing screen layers, Mod LCD frame, add EL Panel, Build and install 120V inverter circuit, Mod switch for inverter power toggle, and Reassemble.

$80 DX3R Blue or Red EL Backlight Mod -

Remove Existing LCD screen, Separate reflective and Polarizing screen layers, Mod LCD frame, add EL Panel, Build and install 120V inverter circuit, Mod switch for inverter power toggle, and Reassemble.

$100 Combo deal for all 3!!! -
Includes all Parts and Labor for LED, LiPo, and EL Backlight Mods.

NOTE: If you choose not to do the LiPo mod along with the EL Backlight Mod, the current draw for the EL panel is very low and has minimal impact on overall battery life when using Alkaline, NiCd, or NiMh AAs.

Thanks!

DX3R Blue EL Backlight Mod-?
Is there any way to put a tiny switch on so this can be turned on and off?
Also what happens if my radio gets damaged during the mod?

I have a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering and am currently working as a professional engineer. I'm very familiar with the components in these types of mcu powered systems. I've successfully completed several of these modifications and I'm very confident that there will be no issues. In the unlikely event of damage on my-behalf, I agree to cover any repair costs or replace the radio with a new unit if it is unrepairable. I think that is fair.

I'm in the San Diego area (92109). If you're local, you're more than welcome to PM me and we can arrange a time to come by.

Note: Opening the radio and doing any such modification may void your warranty with Spektrum.

Yes, that should be do-able. It depends what type and size of switch you would like, but there should be ample room to place a toggle type at the top or side of the radio. We might also be able to put a very low profile push-button switch near the thumb rest, so you can toggle on/off with one hand. Did you have something particular in mind?

If you know what you want you can check www.digikey.com for pricing. You would want a "SPST" "Pushbutton" "ON-OFF" type.

Ah man. I'd like to know if this is still available too. I don't want to have to go back to college to learn how. LOL.
