Bump!

Still available. Sorry for the delay, I was in Taiwan on business. I think I have all PMs replied. PM me again if not.

Regarding the questions about adding a switch, what type would you prefer? Toggle or Push button? It can be done it just takes longer to do. When would you turn the backlight off? I run mine all the time and have no issues with clarity or battery life.

Thanks,
P

Ahhhhh I just saw this. Neat to see someone else doing my mod these days. Here's the original thread from 2008 HERE. It was a DIY pictorial back then, notice in post 5 I fired cathodes behind the screen after removing the backing of the LCD and changing it to translucent white.

It was a good mod then and it's a good mod now. It makes the radio stand out at the track and if you are lucky they'll be distracted by it and wreck so you can win the race.

The LCD is a pain because if you crack it it will turn black. If you just crack it a LITTLE it may take a month or two to notice the black creeping up as it dries inside. For that reason I never bothered to do it for anyone else and made it a DIY. Too much liability for me. I deal with LCD's every day at work and knew what to expect of the LCD if I killed it so I wasn't about to stick my fingers in the radios every day. I was glad just to have done it once.

Yeah, 2 year old thread. Pics are long gone. I'm just glad to see someone else doing the mod. Radio had barely been out 6 months when I did it, was the first backlight modded DX3R.

Personally I'd like the light to be off when the sun is down. Just so the light isn't constantly bugging me, or shining at other drivers. Since the screen points up I would imagine the light points right at your face.

During those night races I'd like to be able to turn the light on and see the screen. Then turn the light back off when not needed. Right now I have to lean over the railing to get light on the screen. The other drivers don't like that. LOL.
