Default Shipping Questions for the Holidays Answered.

FYI,

I've gotten a couple questions about why it's taking so long for things to reach them (west coast to east coast), and I thought this might help others as well too.

I also have been waiting patiently for some items to arrive from the eastcoast.

By default, westcoast to eastcoast takes 5-7 days using USPS.

If ANYTHING was shipped with USPS before xmas (dec 20~21) remember this:

Dec 22nd and 23rd is a sat/sunday - not alot travels
Dec 24th and 25th well, it *is* xmas
which gives only 3-4 days for something to move (26-27-28/29)
Jan 30th is a sunday - no movement
Jan 1st is new years monday - no movement
Jan 2nd was President Ford's honor day - no movement
Jan 3rd lots of catching up to do...

So, if you think about it, all shipments are about a week late now because of all the days off....

I am sure, UPS and other carriers are in the same boat...

Hope this helps.

Expect 1 day delay for each holiday from UPS. Besides that UPS is full bore and on time.

Never mind that I can WALK most places in the US and pick it up faster myself than UPS can manage to deliver it without holidays, etc...

A couple things may be happening with your package.

First--what often happens, depending on the postage option used, is that packages sometimes sit at the International Dispatch until they manage to fill a bin/container to a particular country destination. Depending on the country this sometimes takes several days.

Second--once the package leaves the US the post office no longer tracks it. The ID center is probably the last place you'll see on the tracking until it arrives on your doorstep. I sent a package to Holland in mid-late November. Supposed to take 5-7 days to get there, but what they mean is that's how long to get to the country. It took an additional two weeks to get through customs there.

          hth,

At least you know your shipper did send the item. Meaning it is on its way.

i didn't doubt my shipper for a second,...its the USPS that i'm worried about

But i think its as Scottrik said, the item isn't tracked anymore after it leaves the States ...so i'm gonna try to follow it up with the South African Postal Service its prolly laying at customs somewhere.

well guess what....it arrived this morning, and was in fact laying around at SA customs
So went to pick it up and its Xmas all over again ...i'm a happy camper again

If a package is shipped with USPS to an international address, USPS's online tracking only tracks the package to the point of leaving the US...after that you have to continue tracking in the destination country.

                  Thanx for the help guys
