Lookin at the grip I would have to say he wrapped it to build it up for comfort more then anything. I see that alot at our track with all kinds of radios.

this transmiter had some foam type to make the grip a bit wider to acomodate the users hand but was too thick for me and i removed it. a few wraps of electrical tape got it to where i wanted ,i will remove the tape before shipping.. 
. the only thing broken is the small door (under the on/off switch)that hides the display on off switch,DSC and charge jack, it has one of the small arms tha go inside the transmiter broken (will post pics in a few).. other than that its good.. reduced price $120.00 shipped.
