Default Best Lighting for Painting

What do you all recommend for lighting with regards to painting? Are there any specific fluorescent bulbs you recommend?

I have been doing some research and there are of course bulbs recommended by art studios. Philips makes a bulb with a CRI of 98, but they are $8 bucks apiece, which isn't bad except you seem to only be able to buy them in cases for $150 to $200 dollars.

These thin bulb fixtures are the way to go.

Phillips and Sylvania USEWD to make bright bulbs for the standard 48" fixtures but it seems they changed to making the extra bright bulbs for the skinny type fixtures. Grrr.

have to replace the fixture in my kitchen because the standard bulbs today are weak as all hell.

I found Menards sells a T8 bulb that is 5000K color temperature with a CRI of 90. That is good enough for me. Now I need to get a couple of 4 bulb fixtures that take the smaller T8 bulbs.

The " T? " is just a size figure, 1/8" for each #, so the T8 bulbs are 1" in diameter, the old discontinued T12s were 1 1/2" in diameter. The new T5 bulbs are 5/8" and are the brightest tube bulbs right now.

Thanks for the info. I did not research that part. I am concerned about the lumen output, but I am more concerned about the color temperature and the CRI of the output.

Foot candle wise the t5 fixtures are the way to go. Those are used in warehouse applications as hibay lights. Of all the ones I've installed they have produced the best "natural" light, so you may want to look at those.
