Compressor?

Compressor?
Hi - I have never airbrushed before but I would like to give it a try. I know I have a lot or reading to do but for now I have the following Question.
My wife has a Passche VT airbrush set from years ago. I assume this will work so I want to use it so I don't have to buy something new. My main question is what would be a good air compressor for about $100 or less?
It would be great if I could use it for air brushing as well as other things. I want something that is quiet. Suggestions? Thanks.
3 that I came across.
Senco PC1010 1-Horsepower Peak, 1/2 hp running 1-Gallon Compressor on Amazon for $112 and
Master Airbrush Quiet AIRBRUSH COMPRESSOR w/Regulator-FREE AIR HOSE on Amazon for $75.
Paasche Airbrush DA300 Compressor w Regulator 1/8 HP about $125
Sorry I can't post links yet.

I bought myself this Kobalt 1.5 HP 3Gallon for $89 on sale on Black Friday and I couldn't be happier. It fills to capacity in less than a minute and with 3 gallon reserve it lets me spray plenty before kicking back on. When it comes to airbrushing, the least amount the motor has to turn on, the less heat builds up, The less heat buildup, the less moisture you'll have to worry about filtering out.
You'll also want a water trap filter to keep your paint flowing perfectly.

This would be gret for what you are looking for. Its ultra quiet and has plenty of power. I use there larger model because I paint more bodies then the average hobbiest. Its a great line of ultra quiet compressors.

Here is a demo vid of a similar model so you can see how quiet these are. Very impresive.

What I disliked about the pancake compressors is how easy they can topple over. U borrowed one from a buddy a couple times and I had to drive like granny smith transporting her precious apples or else it'd go over.
The Kobalt I bought isn't as quiet as the California model posted (that's ridiculously quiet!) but it is certainly quieter than the Pancake one in the vid, but the most important aspect of it for me was versatility. It is delicate enough for airbrushing but it's max 155psi output is perfect for the track to clean off my car between rounds and for a final cleanup of all my gear before leaving the track. Also, it's a low slung design so it cannot topple over and the feet are set far apart so it doesn't move even a little bit.

nice video, but that one is for the ultra quiet version which is Only 56 decibels and $160. The one for $99 is 85 decibels, not sure how much louder that one sounds compared to others at the price point.

I know that the California air is way quitter then the kobalt, for a air compressor that isn't a airbrush compressor 56-85 is like turning your radio on 56 and turn it up to 85, big sound diffs, but what ever your chose is as long as it does the job. you get what you pay for.

On a serious note, airbrush with a craftsman 33gallon compressor and then you will know what loud is, lol.
I'm sold on the California air compressors though...

Any other suggestions? I like the California Ultra quiet air compressors but that is more then I want to spend as I am trying to keep it near the $100 mark and that is $160. Thanks.

This is like the one I used up until I bought mine and it was great. I went with the Kobalt because of the higher PSI so I could blow my cars clean in less time. This one is less expensive than entry level airbrush specific compressors and is better.

Question? Am I better off with an Oil or non oil lubricated motor? I thought the sears one was kind of on the loud sound. I found a Wen 2276 on Amazon, only has one rating, and overstock.com the decibel rating of approximately 63.
I found a Sensco PC1010 on Amazon that has good ratings but I can't find out how loud it is and the tank is only one gallon while the Wen is 6 gallons and 2 HP.
