Default Painting a shell without a film?

Hey guys,

Im about to paint a Pegasus racing body shell and discovered there is no film on it! What is the best way to go about this? Im trying to work out a way of also drawing/marking on the body aswell now to cut the maskings!

If anyone has done this before, any tips/tricks would be much appretiated.

Thanks,

Antoni

1. Liquid Mask the outside of it. But that sucks for wiping off sharpie. do all you design and cut work before you mask the outside and begin paint.
2. Cover it with SaranCling film and tape down the edges. Still not the best for drawing and erasing sharpie. See item #1.
3. Cover it in clear tape, which can be a pain to remove later, but is ok for drawing and erasing.
4. Do all of the draw, cut, erase work, then cover the outside with masking tape and any plastic film, or "bag it came in" material, then paint.

If you are using only waterbase paints, you can skip it all and just clean the shell outside with denatured alcohol after all painting to remove any overspray.

I did a pegasus 70 camaro and had same problem. What i did was printed my designs out on paper, in reverse so it was a mirror image. Then taped them to outside of body and cut the mask inside the shell. Here is the body....All of it is paint and hand cut the way I described

do it the same way you ordinarily would. You just have to clean off marker and paint overspray, like Dave mentioned.

Thanks for the advice guys, I was thinking that but wasnt too sure! Its a 64 Impala shell for VTA, so will only be plain waterbased but with some alclad chrome for the bumpers. Hope the chrome is as easy to remove.

Cheers,

Antoni

Impala for VTA? Why will you be removing the chrome?

Personally I prefer the cling film, I make sure I get it smooth ish draw the design in sharpie, cut design out of liquid mask, remove the cling film with the design on and re-apply fresh cling film so the body is clear to see when painting.

Paint, remove cling film job done

The other ideas are all good too though so it really depends on personal preference.
