Exclamation Clearcoating a boat??

I am new to the brush and have a question. I am trying to help a friend out and sling some paint on a cracker box boat for him. My question may sound stupid but if I knew the answer I wouldnt ask. If I spray water based paints and seal with a waterbased clear would that be bad. If so any suggestions from people would be appreciated. I stand back and watch the paint gods and hope to be half as good as half of you guys. Thanks in advance!

If you don't know what 1k or 2k clear is, I'd suggest you have a shop clear it.
Not trying to be a prick, but there is a lot more to it then just spraying some paint.

Thats what I wanted to see was how detailed it was going to be and what equipment I would need to spray the gloss coat. I will see what I can come up with thanks.

If you use a 2 component poly urethane coating it will last for years. I always use for my boats a 2k clear coating. You can ask for it at your local automobile store. Du Pont is such a brand who makes it.

as said, clear isn't the easiest thing to do but if your friend isn't too bothered then just clear it with a can. half decent finishes are acheivable this way.

2k poly urethane is harder than a 1k paint and last forever. Besides that a 1k clear coating will become "yellow" after a while.

Good info guys I will lay down main coats and then decide if I want to tackle the clearing. I do appreciate all of the info.
