how to paint flat black
#17
I did a flat black body not too long ago. I painted the inside with Tamiya PS paint and the paint with PS-55 flat clear. Came out good!

All of my stuff used to be flat black so ive had quiet abit of trial and error dealing with flatblack.
One way is to spray the inside of the body black and take some steel wool, or a green scotch brite pad and scuff the outside. This will leave a semi-gloss look.
The most durable way ive found to get a completly flat look is to paint the outside. Mask off the outside, take and spray down some polycarb black on the outside (pactra spray cans work well), do about 2 coats of that, then get a can of flat black (I used duplicolor), spray a couple coats of that over the poly carbonate base coat.
I used the second method on a sc truck and the body cracked before the paint chipped off.

I've had good luck with truck bedliner spray on the outside. It's tougher than regular body paint. I scuff the outside with steel wool and then spray on the bedliner.
