Default question on custom painted pit boards

What type of material is used on the custom painted pit boards?
I have been wanting to paint one for myself, and see that there seems to be many materials that are being used. I thought about using a 3/4" acrilyc clear material, complete the painting, and then back the painting with a thin white material to prevent scratching the paint.
Any suggestions would really be appreciated. This would be the 1st pit board I will be painting, and just need to know what material I need.
Any good sources for the material?

thanks

I use sheets of polycarbonate as they wont crack like acrylic can. Generally I go for 5-6mm.

You can get another same size sheet of thin acrylic or lexan to back with by drilling together. That's the ideal but I tend to just back them with plastikote super clear like I do my shells then put some rubber feet on the bottom so it raises it off the ground when in use. Durable still (obviously not quite as much as a sheet of acrylic protecting the paint ) and it keeps the costs down for the customers. If they wanted to pay for it then I would do it that way.

Hi Jon, How are you today. This will be a pit board for my own use, as I wont be selling, or even try to sell any.
Do you have a good site for the polycarbonate?

thanks Jon, you have been a great help
