Default House of kolours on clod hardbody??

Hey guys I've jus picked up a tamiya clod body for my scaler build and I was wondering if anyone has tried house of kolours 3 step pearls or candys on the hardbodies, I've used the pearl on my engine covers n watnot on my 1:1 and looks amazing but I don't know how well it will go onto the hardbody. If anyone has done this I'd appreciate some input, I just don't want to do a beautiful paintjob and have it chip like crazy, the paint says it can be used on plastics metals etc, its a 3 step process that you buy from lordco or pepboys I guess if your in the states lol.

Tom, the finish will be beautiful, but it is not meant for the abuse of RC. I recommend just paint it as a shelf queen if you love the look and get a generic monster truck body for it to play.

Thanks for the advice Charlie, that kinda sucks tho because I will be running this body with it at all times since the wheelbase and everythig will be set up perfectly for it, any tips on primer to use or anything to get it to cure stronger?? I'd really like to do a few of there pearls or candys but if the paint is going to just fall off I don't know if it's worth the money, they're not too cheap, I heard that krylon fusion is the best for the tamiya hardbodys so what if I primed with that and then laid the HOK candy or pearl? Almost seems like all those steps and whatnot might be really thick... Hmmm, they do show it on motorcycle helmets and other things like that so I wouldn't imagine it's too weak

The primer i use is flexible primer from Coast. However, keep in mind, motorcylce helmets do not get abused like an RC does. You wear a helmet and occasinally drop it. RC..well...you get the point. The paint will apply flawlessly. The color will be vibrant. No matter what clear or primer you use, it will still be damaged or lift. If you have your heart set on it, then just paint it up and be as careful as possible. I have had to eat it a few times when a paintjob comes back to me because they loved the colors, but started coming off when they started crashing. I make it a point to tell my clients that if it is a show only body, i will not warranty it. PERIOD. I wont guarantee the paint if it starts chipping because of the abuse it gets. Anyway, good luck with your endeavor. Post it up when you are done!

Yeah I see what your saying, I think I'll just go for if anyways and then when she's all rashes up I'll just repaint it, thanks for the help Charlie, I'm in the middle of prepping it and filling all the little holes rite now so hopefully I'll ge it primed and pick up the paints in the next day or two, also should I even bother priming with something else or just use HOK's primer since it will get damaged anyways, also since I got ya here I've been wondering, is it possible to dye a tamiya body (using the method to dye wheels) so when it's scratched you don't see white through? Anyone I've talked to hasn't really heard of anyone even trying it but I'd hate to wreck an awesome body

I would use a flexible primer. it is a little more durable and it is sandable as well. As far as Dye....it is mostly used for Nylon wheels/material. Im afraid if you try to boil or even just use hot water on the plastic, it might harden it up and make it brittle. I know people have died wheels, but the body..well..

Basically, in a real car, you scratch it deep enough, you will see the metal. same thing for rc. It's like saying "i want to protect my shiny Platemail armor from dirt and blood and possibly not get it dented while im on the battlefield with my sword and sheild." Ok..that was a GEEKY analogy, but it kinda fits.

Lol yeah it fits, so what would you recomend for a good flexible primer? First time doin a tamiya body so I appreciate the help, and even better help by a really experienced painter, you do awesome work man, I never could get onto the site to see more but oh well I guess haha. So I got all my prepping done on the body like 10 mins ago so I'll jus wait till I can grab some primer and then decide if I want to finish filling in the blower hole or make a nice cowl hood out of styrene, could always add that later too tho. Thanks again
