Default R/C Body Paint Choice - Can I use Rustoleum

I have removed the paint from a project car and I need to paint it tomorrow - Their are no hobby shops within an hour from my house - Only home depot lowes and walmart - Do these places sell any spray can paint that will work for a lexan r/c body? If so, what kind?

Thanks guys
-Stephen

You will get both answers on this question (yes and no).

I have used Rustoleum's Painters Touch brand paint and it WILL adhere to lexan. It becomes a poor choice when the paint gets too thick. The thick film gets peeler away too easily.

The other issue you will have is proper cure time.

IF you spray it very lightly, and fully cure it with airflow and heat, you might have a paintjob that will stay on just fine.

I would use semi-gloss, not gloss. Since it's on the inside of the hsell anyway, gloss just skins over and slows the curing process, where semi-gloss keeps drying better/faster.

Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

awesome - This is my first paintjob and I am NO artist. I am looking to make a basher body and if it comes out I will do a better race body.

I will post pics of the finished product in the next day or so.

One last question: After I apply the paint, for ex. lets say i am just doing black. Do I need to put a coat of any other paint or just the black paint? Ive heard of people painting a white color behind the main coat, do I need to do this?

Thanks for bearing with a noob : )

Not for black.

Some paints are transparent or semi-transparent, and those benefit from lighter or darker backer colors. Black is black. Same for white.

Rustoleum flat protective enamel sticks to lexan well, but it doesn't come in many colors. I've used it on the outside of shells (flat black hoods) and it holds up there well. I would imagine a low gloss enamel should bond ok, but I haven't tested this. I have seen the gloss enamels take DAYS to dry, like mentioned before, since its on the inside, no need for gloss.
