Airbrush making spider-web or "cotton candy"
Badger 150 airbrush...
Using Pactra Candy Blue, lightly thinned, bottom feed cup.
Thought it was mother nature actually messing with me since it was close to nightfall; but apparently not.
My gun decided to make "cotton candy" type pesky spiderweb material as I was painting. Using around 20psi, doing smaller detail type line-work. I emptied the cup and thinned a little less, it still did it. REALLY aggravating!!!!
Anyone had this happen? If so, what did you do to remedy it? What causes it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This has happened with me several times using Createx paints. Also it could be 2 things. first the body is preped/cleaned with mild soap to wash away the "release" agent used in the moulding process. Secondly, at the bottom of the bodies where the plastic has been stretched the most creates some kind of reaction to the plastic. I intentionally try to get this effect on some bodies. For me to create this look I THIN the paint with water. Check out the black in the wolf. If this beading is what's happening then the paint is probably to thin. Use Faskolor and this won't happen

I got the same stringy mess shooting metalflake base from Pactra. I thinned it a little more and tunned down the PSI and it stopped. Working closer to the surface also helped keep it from flash drying before it hit the body.
That junk was floating all over the room the first time it happened.

Sounds like the problem you guys are describing is different than the problem I've had with the paint pooling or beading up.

Yeah the paint doesn't pool or bead up.
I did it again today with Pactra TrueBlue pearl. Same thing happened.
Thinned, turned the psi down, still did it.
It actually clogs the air feeds in the sides of the tip then starts stringing. Kinda like silly string or cotton candy...but the gun is still laying paint in the right pattern like I want.
REALLY aggravating.
But whatever; the whole body I just painted was apparently destined to be crummy; haha. My chrome lifted, the cotton candy happened and my freehand skills don't match my imagination when it comes to doing body-line "highlights".

It sounds like u definitely need to thin it down some more and lower the pressure, I had that problem a couple years ago before I started using only faskolor.

Well I had tried thinning it around 70/30; bordering 60/40 and then I wasn't getting the coverage I wanted out of the candy or pearl....
Maybe I'll give it another shot; but I'll probably quit doing the kind of work I am now and just stick to bigger stuff. Every time I shoot detail work and lines it goes to pot.

It is a simple problem of too much air pressure, the paint is drying before it hits the body causing the cotton candy/spider web effect.
