Thanks. That's what I normally do is to use the overspray film as a mask itself. But in this case, he wanted to see what the gloss black roof looked like first and then decide. So, I had to go back after the fact and re-mask. Didn't take too long.

I have used the over spray film as a mask as well. The grill was a booger to mask from the inside on my HPI 68 Camaro and I didn't want to use the decals so I trimmed that area out and sprayed the black on the outside.

For you VTA Outlaws who saw my decals for the McAllister IROC Camaro - I've refined the grill to simulate the earlier body style (even though the body has the slope instead of the blunt nose) - IMHO it came out pretty cool -

For you Non VTA Outlaws - you'll have to lobby RobK to be able to use THIS body w/ THESE decals (and don't forget to modify the rear window mask so it doesn't look like the Wrap Around REAR Window when you paint one. (I Painted this originally to replicate a Dirt Oval Car)

Here is a couple picsnof my J71. Its my first proline VTA body and as of now I wont be going back to HPI. The HPI's had tobmany defects frome the factory. This one was perfect. I know the paint scheme isn't period accurate, but I like bright and showy. It also matches his faster brother.

Yes I normally paint. The HPI stickers don't last, and look bad IMO even when applied carefully. I use liquid mask, then X-acto cutting with a bright light. I use Faskolor Chrome Silver. You can paint them from the outside if you are mostly building show car and use the spray mask that comes on the car. These were done from the inside.

The roll bars on this truck body I did from the outside. Sprayed them with Faskolor. Shot white first lightly, then Chrome Silver. Trying to carefully cut the liquid mask from the inside on this would have been painful.

Default A rattle can quickie...

I like to mix and match whatever colors I have laying around to come up with something unique.

I think this one is...

This was a light layer of white pearl followed by fluorescent yellow topped with the last reserves of Pactra Inca Gold.

I call it Butterscotch metallic!

Lighting doesn't do it justice. All of it looks like the shiny parts in the top picture.

That looks really great Crispy! Nice job. And, the stripes set it off too. I think you will really like running that body. I sure do. Holds up really well also. If it was ORANGE, it might be a little faster. But, butterscotch will do.
