Hi there
I run a company that makes decals and in the early days of my research into what I needed, I tried various materials in my inkjet printer. The big problems are, the ink from inkjet printers is not waterproof and not hardrwearing at all. You cannot print white, so that rules out printing your decals on clear vinyl, unless you only want to print black. You can print onto clear if you are going to put them on a white background. You can buy printable vinyl from more specialist computer stores, but as I said it will not be water proof. As for the software, I mostly use Corel Draw for designing my decals, but also use Adobe Photoshop for some effects. But if you are just printing then you can use just about any drawing, painting program. By the way, I gave in on trying to get good enough results from my desktop printer for my business and took the plunge and bought a specialist vinyl printer/cutter, but just for your own use you are not going to go down that route, way too expensive!!!
I hope this helps.

Kevin

No, I mean the well known and suggestion of what kind of sticker paper could do that with inkjet and protective mask sheet to cover after the printing.
That's why i called "own making" instead of "custom".
