no probs!
just be sure you use good plugs on 4S, because I also managed to melt the outside case near the connection of my lipo's when I geared my car to high...

i did test my 966e with 4S lipo => https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwOzil59Mvg

check the description for set-up details.

To give you an answer on what pinion you should start with.

Lets take a 1800kv speed passion blaze motor.
If you want to gear the car to reach 85kmh, this is how you need to gear it.
1800kv x 3.7V x 4S = 26.640 rpm (theoretically)
check gearchart.com an fill in the figures you know and to find out the gearing you need to accomplish this.
- internal ratio = 1.714 (28/18)
- rpm = 26.640
- tire diameter = 73mm
And start playing with the spur (48 / 49 / 50) and pinion (14 => 21), until you have the desired speed, then check what roll-out goes with this speed.
If you fill in everything correctly, you will come to a roll-out of around 53,5mm and a spur / pinion of 50 / 20.

The "roll-out" chart you can also download from serpents website on the 977e page.

If I'm correct, a 21 pinion is the max pinion that fits the car.

thanks i for the info this helps a lot.. Im going 4s for sure it will just right for our track

I just checked, and a 22T will also fit, but then you have to modify 1 of the motor mount bottom screws.

Hi i am looking at getting one of this cars, im used to running 6s on my gt....i ripped a lrp rotor to shreds....

so i doubt i would be doing 6s anytime soon....so my initial setup would be 4s....lets say i use a 2400kv up....what gearing would i use? i saw someone gave some great advice saying that he used 16-18t.....but what would happen if i went higher? excessive heat or heavy lipo drainage? i need a fast car to get my thrills. but ive blown a few motors and its pretty pricey....If i do this i want to buy what i need one time and cry n a corner with buyers remorse later....

So what would my shopping cart be?

977e,
wheels,
body,
viper esc and 2700kv combo,
gearing/ 16-18t?

and what else??

a spare set of belts?

Im in SA so importing stuff takes a while so i dont want to get stuck...

dont be afraid of 6S. it doesnt have to mean faster, more volts just means less amps which is cooler and therefore efficient and capable to deliver more power.
so if you are considering 4S with 2400kv you might get more run time and cooler temps with similar power running 6S and 1600kv. both would use the same gearing. id select 19t to start with.. for my track with me driving.. but you might want to check the 977e calculator.

im using 1800kv speed passion motor on turnigy 150a esc with 17t pin and 6S...its great.

BTW the transponder is stuck to underside of servo.
