Default A couple of questions....TC3 drag possibility??

Good morning everyone, first off, let me say that I'm a HUGE drag/street racing fan. I'd like to step up and get into the RC drag hobby. I currently have an Associated TC3 electric sedan that right now is 4WD. I've been toying with the idea of pulling the front differential and drive shaft out of the car to make it RWD. How well would one of those 8 turn drag motors do in the car? I realize the car probably wouldn't run with alot of the purposely built drag cars......

Another question I have is......I've seen a few people take a 1/10 pan car/carpet racer and turn it into a drag car.........how well do these cars perform??? Anyone have a suggestion on which style chassis to use??? If anything I'd like to run in the Pro Stock class.........that is IF I ever make it to a drag strip to run......since Houston doesn't have an RC drag strip. Most of my racing would be heads up against friends....in a large smooth parking lot.....like a street race.

And lastly, this question is for the nitro crowd.......Do you guys use (or have used) the nitro Superchargers from RB Innovations???? I'm curious as to how well they work......

THANKS for any and all help and info,

Brian

Suggestion: Try asking this same question in this forum instead.

Not a lot of drag racers here...

Yeah, I was looking for an RC drag forum for ya and that's the best I could do. I think that with only about 10 dedicated RC dragstrips in the country, there's not much going on with it.

Going back to your original question, I would look for a cheap Ebay pan car to use as the basis for a drag car. Cheap, simple, not a lot of parts to break if you hit a lightpole in a parking lot at 70mph and so on...

The TC3 drivetrain wasn't really designed to put the power of an 8t through only the rear diff, cvd's, etc. so that could be a problem. Or, just run it in 4wd and enjoy the extra traction off the line.

Mark, I joined this site last week in hopes of learnign about the RC drag racing hobby...and I posted the same TC3 post there...and STILL haven't received a single reply....even though 60+ people read my post

RC drag racing is pretty much underground I guess..... *sigh*

I think you may be right about the pan car idea.......maybe a Bolink Eleminator chassis or Associated pan might be better suited.

Thanks for the help, Brian

there is a guy in the DFW area in Carrollton named Marvin Jackson. He races there in Carrollton at his track named T&M Raceway which you can get to through www.indyrcworld.com and he races in San Antonio. I dont Know the track name though. I used to race all the time down there with those guys. They'll be more than happy to hook you up. I used to run a .12 dragster and drag racing is a lot of fun.

Default ....Greetings.....

....you posted good questions....when you get a chance log on to www.teamwalbern.com .I was fortunate enough to meet the owners/drivers of that company this year at a RC trade show, here in New York ( their comraderie/showmanship prompted me to buy one of their prostock cars-electric powered );anyway, the TC-3 for your purposes (straight line acceleration across a parking lot)with an 8-turn modified motor theoretically is ballistic- assuming assuming your ESC can handle the mod motor. If this esc IS capble, it would be in your best interest to try to get the most "punch" from it. In conjunction w/ the 8-turn mod motor, your "tunable esc" and and the all important batteries<these are also an important variable>, theoretically, you'll have a fast car....as far as being quick off the line,(and i'm not reffereing to you reaction time specifically) a properly equipped prostock drag car will more than likely have far better acceleration due to a lighter chassis<ie. unsprung weight>, also, the fact that a TC-3 has full suspension w/c can "rob" the power from your electronics- this is in comparison to that properly equipped prostock car<w/c has no suspension>and can send the 7.2volts (and higher) more efectively to the asphalt. Just ask George Cardona from Team Walbern; He sold me a compilation of races on DVD when I had attended that trade show. On it, I had seen the RB Supercharger in action (ask them of the pros and cons of that supercharger....they have excelent insight on what works & what doesn't......Oh' and the same stands true for the Associated 1/10 th Pan car, it too has a power robbing suspension ....but, if you can some how "convert" it,then try it out. ------Greg

Default ....oh', and if I could also add....

....there can be conflicting information about the best formula for attaining the speed that you're looking for....what I had replied with previously was a shortened version of what I was told .("Don't shoot the messenger," if you may). If you so choose to utilize a TC-3 for drag racing, don't overlook the use of a spool in the front/rear or both diff. cases.....and also, try www.IEDA.com , www.RCdrags.com , and www.Grandmotorsports.com..... sighing may be un-called for considering that the motor brand of the worlds fastest scale electric RC Drag rail (ie. Top Fuel style drag racing ) is still in business under new management -- an armature (not including can with the "end bell")tuned by them can cost upwards of $300- in comparison to Trinity's low turn $100 mod motors.---------Greg...................................... Good morning Greg, THANKS for taking the time to post. I know the TC3 chassis would require a bunch of work to convert it to something usefull for drag racing (lightened chassis, springs, rear spool, etc.) I guess I was just curious if anyone had done it before....or if I was headed in the wrong direction with it.

Again, thanks for posting those ideas...... you've helped to point me in a better direction

Default ....Hey Brian....

.....I hope that I was of some help. I appologize if my reply was long winded. I'm contending with school as of now but when i get the chance, I'd like to get some runs in w/ my RC cars. Jus' think, people like you and I help move the hobby forward ( wether it be scale car racin' or your 1:1 full size car ) , In the past, Trinity had released a conversion where you could use a .12 motor of your choice to propel a TC-3....picture that equipped with an RB supercharger and JAG's Nitrous injection kit, all hidden under an unsuspecting 190/200mm body ....the bragging rights are yours.-Greg
