I don't know where in the Nor Cal area you are, but the advise on the L4 is probably the best advise you'll get.
Associated's L4 is not the most advanced or HiTech oval car, but it has all the features you need to compete ready in the box. It's a great kit, and has a lot of tuning features.
As for NorCal locations, call JAKE ROSEN at JPH Hobbies in Norther California. He's an OVAL RACER and his shop STOCKS Oval Parts. His web address is http://www.jphracing.com
Tell him Joe from the South-West Tour sent you~
Then when you are ready for a MORE intense, more adjustable oval car visit JAKE again and check out his NEW Swift Maverick '05 L4 conversion. It's simply incredible.

I would have to agree with SWtour. The Mavericks are excellent cars. I just recently changed over to the OPC (one piece chassis) 05 after using the L4.
Most of the oval cars in the market use the assiocated part from the front end to the pod. You won't go wrong with one. If you want the most updated, tune ability and most important support from a racer/builder go with one the 05 Mavericks.

This is s Ford vs. Chevy thread. It's personal preference all oval cars setup well are great cars weather it be a Hyperdrive,Maverik,CW,L4 KSG.Two great places to buy kits from are Lefthander Rc .com and Murdock Rc.Also look for what the fast guys at your track are running,,so you can get help with setups.

Want to start to run oval, not sure which car is the best one to get, I have been told a few different times to buy a 10L4.
seems none of the shops around here support oval so I need a good place to buy one
thanks to all
This was the original post in this message, and the users info shows he's from NOR CAL, that being the case, JPH would be a great choice, not that there is anything wrong w/ MURDOCK, LEFTHANDER, RC4LESS, or ANY of the online sources...but JPH is in HIS neck of the woods, and JAKE is Great to NEW racers.
The KSG car, the Custom Works Car, the Pro2 or Pro3 from Hyperdrive, Silva's Concepts, etc. are ALL great cars...but I would NEVER recommend one of those to somebody wanting their FIRST CAR. That's where you can't go wrong with a Associated L4

I don't know what all they are running for oval at Ripon, I think that is a short flat asphalt track isn't it?
I would guess for a starting point if you are running Stock would be 3 Green's and a Blue RF, or 3 pinks and a Purple RF (Harder RF tire)
If the track is dialed w/ traction, you may be able to go 3 purples and a Red or Double Purple RF or maybe even 4 purples. I'd ask the guys who are running and see what they are running...
There are lots of good/helpful/friendly OVAL racers up in that area...they will give you info. You could probably give Jake a call at JPH too, he's probably got a set up sheet for Ripon someplace.
i would have to agree with everyone else and go with the L4 and it is good to have someone locally who can help you get your car dialed in and help support your cars replacement parts. cant go wrong with an L4. sometimes too much tuning with those other cars can do more harm than good. i have a pro2 and i love that car but for beginners and the amount of possible upgrade and parts availablity, you cant go wrong with the L4. my 2 cents from the east coast.
