Help on my new legend setup

I just ran my first carpet race with a bolink legend and got my hiney spanked. I got the new required spec motor (RS540 black can Tamiya) for the class and with 3 different pinion changes my best time was 4.96 and the leader was 3.71. This is over 1 second better time. My car handled fine but I just didn't have the torgue or speed as the other cars. I have a novak rooster esc and 3300mah 4 cell. My best guess is I need more battery (up to 4600mah allowed) and the rooster esc is not very good with 4 cell -4.8v. Someone suggested the fast cars cheated with their motors. I don't know for these are sealed can motors. Anybody?

Couple of questions first...

How are the bearings on your car? Everything needs to be smooth and oiled.

Is it open tire or spec tire?

Are you allowed to make front spring changes?

Did the fast guys have their tires trued or did they run them out of the box?

Regarding motors, there are many, MANY tips and tricks to get more RPMs and horsepower out of the 540 motors. There is a thread here about that issue.

How is your driving? Are you running consistent 4.96 laps? Are you running the same line as the fast guys?

One thing that may help is the 3-piece front end from RJ Speed, #5246. You can mount the arms in an over/under position to jack weight around. Try the right arm below the plate and the left arm above.
