That is the body--- It has the most downforce available for 1/5 scale cars today. I just painted my first one-- and looking forward to seeing the difference between it and the BMW body I"ve been running. You can contact Frank Killam racing to buy them--complete kits with rear wing. cell #805-358-5040

Yes this is Frank's hobby--- not his business. He IS really good at modeling and creating molds for his bodies-- he works for BMW Designworks-- and has been a master modeler for over 30 years. In his "spare time" he offers some bodies for 1/5 scale race cars--the Corvette is the newest among several. I'll see Frank this Saturday for help building my new Evo--I'll try to get better contact information for you then.

WOoo TIm,
YO, better be very careful on what you say
I finished all of my races for series with my CONTRAST. I'm finishing 2nd for all of the series race with my practice motor. See here. http://contrastca.com/raceresult.html
Put it this way, there are alot of FG cars that won't hold up for 30 minutes as well as our Contrast cars.
It's up to you to keep them together.
It's not the make of the cars.
So don't be pointing fingers to what car broke cuz I can point some fingers too.
No hard feelings but , I sincerely hope you finish your next race cuz, you've gone thru a race with a FRANK built car but soon you will need to rebuild your car and it could start falling apart
Thats is my point.
Understood?
I REALLY meant my comment more as "tongue in cheek"--but I can see reading it later it was not a nice thing to say. I've already apologized--Brian had a great run-- we all thought he had the race won--but he had bad "racers luck" -- the old adage remains true--to finish first--first, you must finish! Again, I'm sure his time will come---the Contrast cars are proven fast and reliable.

Regarding the posts about the racing at the Nationals, everyone is a little over sensitive. I'm not sure but maybe this goes back to the importers Internet battles from many years ago. However, this is not the current case and all those importers are no longer involved in the hobby. Everyone gets along and and enjoys racing so let's keep it that way and build the hobby/sport.
To mount the Corvette in place of a normal body like a BMW, you need new rear side body mounts (9014/1). The rear body mounts are positioned all the way down. The front body mounts are 7154/1 for the Cortvette but I think you can use the ones that came with the car, (7154), if you shorten the base a little. The body clip holding the post is ~53mm from the bottom for the Corvette. You will need to make some side guards for the body because there is a curvature near the front to get around the body. I used a piece of 1/8" thick Kydex. Frank can give you a template. Also, you probably want a new foam front bumper (8418/06). The body will last a lot longer if you make the bumper large enough to fill the front nose.
On Topic, a couple years ago, they ran a 1:5 24hrs Lemans at Lastallo (link). I thought it was one of the coolest RC events I'd seen. Lights on the cars at night, and a total of 683 miles with an RC car.

Glad to see everyone worked out there differences. This thread is important to poeple like me wanting to get into 1/5th scale and asking questions on different manufacturers and what they have to offer on there kits. Anyone run the RS car? Looks cool but havent seen much of them, I know that the Contrast car is new this year and looks very good from the pics Ive seen. I know its all about setup, but how are parts availability and support on these manufacturers? Keep the info coming, looking for a Christmas gift for myself.

From the few races I've seen at the track in Artesia--neither the FG nor the Contrast car seem to have any real advantage over the other. The Contrast cars at this time seem to have some of the faster drivers I've seen-- but like I said--I've only been to a few races--so I haven't seen a lot of racers.
Frank Killam is the "KING" of preparation and car setup-- and he drives an FG car. He's proven to be very tough to beat !! He's also an old friend that I have raced with and against for 30 years--so with his help--I've started with an FG car--and met Bob Sarnelle of VS Modelsport-- who is the primary importer for FG Manufacturering out of Germany. He's also located in SoCal--so that's why I decided to go FG-- they've been a proven race car manufacturer for years.
Contrast cars are a more recent manufacturer--and from what I've seen of the cars at the track--they are beautiful in design with more carbon fiber bling---and because I don't know a lot about them--I"m going to ask that Ray or Shaw Takahashi chime in with information about their cars--- I believe they are the importers! So if you guys would--
tell us about the cars--and WHERE to buy cars and parts for them!!
I really don't believe you could go wrong with either car--both are VERY fast and seem to be strong and reliable--then it's up to setup and the driver!!
As for the other cars I've seen---Harm, RS, and some really cheapo Chinese knock off cars-- they are not the equal of the Contrast or FG sedan/GT cars.
Allan Trump runs an F-1 RS car and it's beautiful and he's very fast with it. But I don't think there's any current US importers for the Harm or the RS cars.

I believe that Frank had a "wrap around" pipe on his car when he was running this body.
I did not change set up at all. I just put some fresh tires on the car and ws good to go. Obviously you need to tune the car to the track conditions on a given day.
By the way, the body in the pictures above is the same prototype body that I got from Frank.
My RS5 F1 is probably the only one currently racing in the USA. However, there is another one on its way. I keep a pretty good supply of parts but I get whatever I need from Germany in about 2 weeks with no problems. Also, I have been surprised at how durable the car is overall. Obviously the better the set up, the lees things you hit.
I also have a HARM/FG F1 hybrid which Victor Garcia ran very fast at the Nationals. He was challenging for the lead when he had a ball let loose in the drive shaft. This car started out as a HARM because I really like the strength, durability and roll center adjustability of the bulkheads. I added an FG gear drive because HARM doesn't make one yet. Many of the FG parts are interchangeable with the HARM. The HARM parts remaining are the front bulkheads, chassis, front cross brace and bellcranks and the servo mounts. As you can see, many of these parts will never need replacing. If I need a HARM part, I order it from Rapid Racing in the UK. No problems, fast shipping.
By the way, Jay Kimbrough ran Bob Sarnelle's backup FG Sportline F1 very competitively.
One just has to plan ahead a little more if there are no local dealers. It's not that big of a deal.
All the F1 cars on the market can be made to be very competitive as you can see above. So go get a car and come racing.
Timmig, HARM makes some very decent and high quality cars. Have you seen their SX-3? That car looks amazingly engineered. I would not group HARM along with "cheap Chinese Knock-offs" by any stretch of the imagination. If it were up to me, I'd get a HARM car over FG. But since no one distributes the HARM here in the states (or at least that I know of), I am settling with the FG Evo 08-530. Plus a lot of the local racers have FG cars as well.

Hey AFT, where do you buy from in Germany? You obviously like the car if your getting another one. It has to be very light, are you adding alot of weight or are these cars naturally making weight? Any weak spots on the car our are they pretty durable. If you can could you post a pic of your car without the body? Thanks guys, keep up this thread.
