Default SC8 for oval?

My local track is starting oval racing in Oct. I have a sc8 and was wondering if it could be converted to oval racing. I already have too many RC's and don't want to go and buy another right now. Will it suffice to get started with to see if I like it?

I have an SC8 and run the dog out of it. I have not officially "raced" it on our oval, but I have gone out there with others goofing around. If you have light fluid in your diffs (I run 5), you lower your shocks lowering the truck down, and you're pretty good at feathering the throttle you can drift almost the entire oval at full throttle. The down side is you wont be the oval racers' best friend as you'll be slinging dirt from here to forever, but it is a BLAST!

Default Use Losi -L8ight body mounts....

I used Losi L8ight front and rear body mounts to convert my BUGGY to a Late Model. See the bottom paragraph concerning the roll cage on the SC8.

On the front, you have to dremel some material off of the main bumper plate so it will fit under the front gearbox after removing the buggy bumper. The bumper has a metal insert so it is not weakened.

Here is a link to our local RC board that has a bit more detail on the construction than the thread here does:

http://www.rc-offroad.net/forum/view...hp?f=34&t=2497

On the top plate, I narrowed mine down to where it would attach at the location of the two top screws that are side by side.

Another local racer did his a different way. He attached the front upper brace to the bottom shock tower mounting screws. Looks a bit cleaner (and stronger) than mine. Here is the thread:

http://www.rc-offroad.net/forum/view...hp?f=19&t=2584

On the rear, you will have to drill mounting holes in the SC8 rear shock tower to attach the rear body mounts. Use screws of your choosing.

Sad thing is, neither of us has had a chance to try out the setup. I am in the middle of a move and I don't know if Tom has had a chance to try his yet either. Been rainy the last week or so.

The only issue you are going to run into is the longer truggy chassis that the SC8 uses. It may not be legal. Will depend on your local track. May not fit right under most Late Model bodies (Stalker, Losi, Ofna, etc)

I just now realized that the SC8 has the big roll cage assembly. You MIGHT be able to get by with just removing the upper roll cage and mounting a LM body to the existing body mount posts! If the rear bumper fits under the body, it would make it more realistic looking and be much stronger. You would just have to borrow a clear LM and do a test fit to see if stuff would work. The front bumper might not fit underneath, but ymmv.
