Hello Everyone,
I purcahsed last night off ebay a 1/5 scale 23cc XRC2 buggy, should get it maybe late next week.
Cant wait! Ive got a little experience with nitro (also have 1/8 scale nitro off roader). What do i need to know about the petrol ones that are vastly different from the nitro?
Ive seen some videos on youtube about tuning etc which all look pretty straigh foward, i plan to run it on the rich side anyway.
Do these motors have an inbuilt fan or something? Or are they just air cooled?
Anyway any info you could help me out with im sure will come in handy. I look foward to posting with you later on!
Im pretty new to petrol so please correct me if I get anything wrong.
Petrol cars rev much lower than nitro, so the engine lasts longer and they do not need much or any tuning. They pretty much start first pull, as you probably know they do not have a glow plug which keeps ignited, it has a spark plug which ignites for one second.

Just be sure with the 2 stroke motors you run a good quality oil and don't try to skimp on it. That's what keeps the cylinders lubed and the bottom end bearing etc. That's where you'll find any problems running "lean". Mostly--you'll easily hit the "sweet" spot with tuning easily by simply playing with the low and high speed adjustments--then set your idle down nice and low as these motors are not NEAR as finicky as nitro!!! I've gotten rid of ALL my nitro planes and cars-- electric or gas is SOO much easier to deal with it's just an all around pleasant experience.
Enjoy your new gas experience!! I am---offroad with HPI buggies and soon going onroad with FG cars out of Germany!!!

Geeez--- I just spent the morning working on my two 1/5 Baja buggies!! I can't believe how EASY it was to set them up and get them running really well!!
These gas powered motors are really reliable, easy starting, and after break-in-- run remarkably well!!! I should have gone gas YEARS AGO!!!! But now that I've seen the light---I'm going on road racing for sure!!! F-1 and Street class should be a great place to start!!
I"ve got a STOCK 23cc RTR Baja to run in the stock off-road class's in Riverside--and I picked up a pre-built PRO version with the 26cc motor and nice expansion chamber and pipe!! It REALLY has some snappy power and runs great---the stocker is easier to drive and fun too. A great way to go offroad racing.
IMHO

From my days in go karts if you want to make those gas motors run like a bat outta hell mix in bout 2 cap full of KLOTZ NITRO, itll wake those lil things up! we gain bout 3 hp on go karts, and then then we added a lil too much and sent the piston through the head.. and klotz oil, depending on which one will burn.

I'm not an expert on Gas Engines... and just started on 1/5 scale... My RCs are all Nitro. I'm having difficulties ordering "Expensive" Nitro, so I've decided to switch to Gas.
Should I switch brand? The one I'm using is:
