Hit the wall with the losi and you'll see the difference, the CW is purpose built to be a racers unlike the toy losi, has the same feel as the Tyco sprinter that was made back in the early 90's

The sliders are cool if your track runs them as a separate class.

For serious racing, go with CW.

As for the price, lots of high quality graphite and aluminum parts on the CW. Besides, Tony Stewart has to pay for that new NASCAR team somehow

Default Tranny problems?

I've seen some threads on other sites where racers are having reliability problems with the Slider tranny durability. Anyone here heard the same?

I've raced my slider for 4 1/2 months and the only thing I broke was the front
bulkhead, replaced with an aluminum one and have not had another issue.
The Custom Works is more professional though.

The newer 1/10th Sliders come with the new heavy duty ESC, metal idler gear, and beefier axles in rear.

We have been running them hard and find them very hard to break. Ealier versions had some issues.

They are ready to run not ready to race; at least not against top of the line Customer Works or Dynotechs. Most tracks around here keep them in their own class.

A lot of fun for lower dollar initial cost.

just not the case, i have watched many races running sliders and cw together and the cw were having an issue keeping up with the sliders, no the drivers of the cw werent newbies, they changed a couple things with the sliders but it was mostly the motor and esc to brushless, the cw were brushless also same motor in both...

i just picked up my slyder saturday , i must say its a blast to toss into the corners. i ran it for only a a little while before the heats started and i like it . its pretty fast out of the box too , i didnt run it long because i want to break in the motor and keep it stock . the only complaint i have is the battery tray on the losi , you need to take the front cover off around the cage what a pita if your in a hurry. now i need to go and breakin the motor

Custom works is the ONLY way to go, the losi is very difficult to work on the trans screw has to be tightened at once, the built in ervo saver is weak, stock motor and speed control dont last to long, and i just personaly dont care for them, i run kranzel dirt oval stuff but i have had a cw sprint and it would haul a$$ and take names with it

If you tighten down the nut on the servo saver it works fine. You also need to put some locktite on it. The newer release has a better ESC that seems to handle whatever our racers have thrown at it. This includes hotter motors and lipos. Some work on the tranny is a good idea.

At our local track with a mix of CW, Losi 1/10th Sliders, and some conversions; the Slider does quite well in competiton. The motor and batts are controlled so that means it is car and driver from there. Our racers worked on the Sliders on carpet first and found the weaknesses. Now that we are on dirt for the summer shock oil/springs, and a few tweaks have produced great cars. They are also very strong and seldom break anything.

I think it's a little tough to compare a car that costs $250 to a car costing 4 - 5 times that much. I've been racing my 1/10 Slider several months and have seen some of the things that are written in this link.

Here's the deal...If you run something hard enough into the wall...it breaks!

If you want a competitive sprint car looking R/C and don't want to pay over $1000 for CW, buy the Slider. Yep, you better tighten the servo saver. Nope, I haven't personally found it to be of poor quality. I haven't seen anyone at our club who races break off a bulk head. We run about 2 dozen and a half of them over the race season. My guess is that someone had a lipo and overdrove the car.

I've read a lot of threads in this forum of people turning their stock Slider into a modified with Lipos and other "hot" electronics. Personally, I wouldn't do that because my experience is that it kills the class (around here).

One thing that is great to see is the amount of 1/10 Sliders coming out each week. We had a hard time keeping CW and other like cars coming to the track (partically because they kept breaking...yep no joke), plus the cost of them and the complexity of building and maintaining them became a turnoff to the some of the guys running them.

Bottom line from my perspective is that 1/10 Slider is not inthe same gene pool as the CW or the like. Good luck to those people who try and run them together. If they do well against the CWs, fine.

Say if I want to mod one of these like switching some plastic parts to better parts adding a brushless motor new esc and lipo battery wich one would be the way to go? Say if everything was simullar and put a slider and custom works together who would win? Would it be a better driver or would the custom works smoke the slider?

At our local track , a small dirt oval, the Custom Works cars are head and shoulders above the Losi.

The Losi is more of a play car , the Custom Works is a race car.

I am a big fan of Custom Works , and their cars are ALOT more tweakable.

The Outlaw is bit smaler than the Slider , its lighter too. The stealth transmission in the CW cars are bulletproof. Every Losi Slider I have seen has transmission issues.

I applaude Losi for introducing sprint cars to the mainstream , and for a pretty good price.

The Custom Works Outlaw has a street price of $300, and nothing needs to be upgraded. It was easy to build , but challenging to place the electronics. There is satisfaction building a Custom Works car KNOWING you are using all the best components , again , NO UPGRADES NEEDED.

Support from the company has been excellent, you should see the dirt oval form , www.dirtoval.com , there are manufacturers forums, look at the CW forum , you will find set-up sheets and all kinds of good info.

There are others as well , Dynotech cars and Speedy racing B4 and XXX conversions, but if you look at the racing results ,the top 3 are always Custom Works.

When it comes to dirt oval racing , you iether own a Custom Works car , or you want one.

At my local track, there is a mix of Losi, Customworks, and Dynotech cars running in the stock sprint class. Per the rules, everyone has to run the Losi Slider tires (standard compound or hard compound) and a 17.5 brushless motor. A properly set up slider will run right with the CW and Dynotech cars at our track. I think the biggest deciding factor would be what class you plan to run (or what does your local track run?), do you need the electronics that come with the slider, and do you plan to run open/mod sprint on bigger tracks eventually. I think the Slider is a awesome car for the money, but the Custom Works Outlaw is only $60-$70 more(but you need electronics and possibly tires). Just my 2 cents.
