Default Diff fluid

I'm in the process of assembling the FG viscous locking diff. What fluid weight should I be using for 301?

use the Fg recommended 1000 for cold days and 2000 for hot days.

I sometimes use the recommended oil by VS motorsport, valvoline synthetic oils.

REMEMBER NOT TO OVER FILL THE DIFF. you must only use 20 to 25 ml of fluid.

use 17ml of Valvoline synthetic Diff oil 75W-90 , run the car and burp the diff. while the oil still warm. you will be very happy with this set up.

silicone oil changes viscosity a soon that it gets warm. specially on the diff.

I can't find the valvoline oil on FG Supply. Where do you get it?

What do you guys use as a measuring device?

Also, VG are you associated with VSpeed engines?

He IS V-Speed motors. Victor's engines are in the cars of some of the fastest guys in the country, including Eric Poholski. Also, remember how fast Scott was all weekend? He took his 4-bolt V-Speed motor out of his F1 and put it in his sedan. Enough said.

Gotcha. I sent him a pm regarding my engine. My car was advertised on ebay as having a Vspeed motor. Maybe he can help with my stalling problem.

Hey Rich
That 75W90 you cna find on any auto shop (Bepboys, Autozone) not in the FG supply webpage.
This sounds silly but I went to Kmart and got my self a good quality Turkey syringe, the one used to spray fluid inside a turkey. Hey it works!@!@!@!@

Also, this past weekend it was near the 100deg F air temp, and guess what. I was having the same problem you did, my engine kept stalling after a few laps and when I checked the carb bubble it was empty so I kept richining the mix until it did do it. I think I had 1 3/4 on the low and about 2 1/2 on the high, that was crazy. Do you have a hole on the rear of your car??? I am starting to think that our problem (Brian, yours and Mine) are due to not enough cool air coming in and out of the car while on track. All of us have the rear window of our cars NOT cutout and that may be way our engines are getting hotter and then leaning out. i hope VG can chime on this.
Thanks
LuisR

Luis is right, you can get the Valvoline diff oil at any auto part store. two things to remember only put 15- 17ml of oil and make sure thta you burp the diff after your first 10 min run. other wise the diif. will build up pressure and will push the out-drives out.

with regards of the motors, a t a 100 degree temp and I assume high humidity? you need to run the motor a little richer; L- 1.3hrs +- H -1.10 to 2.1hrs +-
the carb. bubble need to be a list 3/4 full, if the bubble is not filling up, most like it you motor has a leak. it could be at the base of the carb. or the head. its a lost a vibration on the motor with very little support.

things that I suggest:

1. make sure the the motor has plenty of ventilation, a list open all the side windows.
2. ,make sure that you have a good air filter, clean and oiled. all times.
3. have a good plug, NGK iridium # 7 worlks good.

hope this helps.

Victor

PS: I don't log in very often. Brain has my email address.

Thanks Luis...I'm gonna try it with some 2000wt FG oil and see how it goes. I want to get some run time in at the station before the next race.

Thanks Victor...I'll email you about the motor. Thanks for the advice.

Rich

The diff has an oil fill plug so I'm thinking loosen the plug after running to let out any pressure that might have built up.

That makes sense, does loctite need to be used on that plug?

The instructions do not call for it. It comes with a brass washer. On Luis's advice, I went to WalMart and bought a plastic "flavor injector" to add and remove the diff oil. It's basically a big plastic syringe used to inject liquids or seasoning into meat. It works great! It even has measurements on the side. Thanks Luis!
