ok, so i bought a slider. great looking car, however:
speedo died on the 4th battery pack
upgraded to sidewinder 4600 since
stripped the tranny on brushless
all of that within six hours of purchase
now that i've vented, here is my question:
slider has symetrical suspension (left/right equal lenght arms)
real sprint cars do not
what parts of what cars could i use to offset the suspension
that would be super cool i think, dont ya?
another question is what do i put in for a better transmission so i won't blow it again?
I'm taking for granted you are not running a stock class. I have probably the most modded slyder anywhere. Here's what I've done to mine. I replaced the stock tranny with a b3 and to do this you'll need to fab a top brace . It's not very hard to do you can probably use the original one but will need to cut it down some. I made a aluminum one . The next thing I did was changed the front shocks by using an old shock tower and bolting it to the existing one. On the rear I used xxx buggy arms with losi hub carriers like the gbx custom works uses with b4 cvds. I then wanted to be able to change the rear toe so I mounted custom works rear toe blocks on the chassis plate. You have to add a hole and slightly slot one. I also used Custom works front axles to narrow the front some. To do this you have to cut the front steering blocks alot to narrow them. The last time I ran this car I tq'ed and won the A by 3 laps. I built this car because the plastic on these cars is really tough and plan on using it for outdoor buggy tire racing. You really don't want an offset car for buggy tires. If your going to keep the frontend stock you need to find a really stiff right front spring that will fit the bigger shocks they have. Like a 20 lb.
There is a metal geared trans that a guy is running in his slider at my local dirt track, I think he only paid $60.00 for it and has had zero problems since and is running some serious power through it. Not sure of where he got it, somebody here will chime in with more info. I am sure a lhs shop could get some info on it. I cant help you on the suspension, but I am a sprint car fan and I think it would be cool to run some stagger (left rear tire smaller than the right rear) . There is something wrong if a sprint car turn right as well as it does left!
quick update
rebuilt the tranny with alu idler gear from losi (one for slider/high roller)
seems to hold for now (3 packs on it)
side note running on pavement (tires bold after one day)
ended up putting 4 oz. of lead under the front wing and 2 oz. on left side of chassis to prevent the wheelies (sidewinder 4600kv)
and to offset weight distribution really easy to slide
60 weeight oil on rifht rear and more straight shock position seemed to help too
haven't tried changing the springs, just preload settings on right side of car
too bad i don't know anybody else that could run with me locally
as much as i hated oval racing this car is propably most fun i had in a while
I'll be getting one of these next week.
People at the track have been using the aluminum idler gear for brushless.
Also on races like this the axles take a toll and the shaft gets bent.
If you have a couple 2mm shims that solves the axles from bending.
People have also been running these box stock.
Also the orange losi springs makes the car easier to tune.

Where are you putting the shims to solve the axle bending problem, thanks

I just wanted to throw a couple of things at you that might help. Off setting the suspension might look cool, but it is ultimately for getting more left side weight. That being said, placement of your gear & some lead weight will do what you need. When comparing RC to real sprintcars, some things suspension wise are DRAMATICALLY DIFFERENT, i.e. real sprints DO NOT have independent suspension, front OR rear so the way you manipulate the suspension geometry is different. In RC we typically use a ball diff, not a spool (locked l & r rear axles), so stagger does not help RC cars turn ( in the traditional sense),because as the car goes through the turn, the diff is compensating for the different radius the inside tire follows vs. the outside tire does. Running stagger on RC DOES affect corner weights & percentages though, but your usually better of changing a spring vs. a taller (stagger) tire since the taller tire can influence you roll center geometry as well, (more so than making a spring change). Using the XXX rear control arms/ CustomWorks toe blocks/ B4 CVDs is a great idea that I know works. I was running that on my GBX while waiting for the Outlaw kit to come out. Sorry for the long, potentially confussing post, & good luck with this project!
There is some guys running a T4 tranny on it. But buying the metal gears is easier. I have not stripped the stock gears yet, I'm running a mild LRP 9.5 brushless motor. I'm still running nimh and can keep up with the fast guys.
I beileve the combination of running Lipo and brushless causes the tranny
to strip itself out. I put AE black grease in the tranny, and 20+ runs have
not had a gear strip yet. But if I do I'll get the metal ilder and diff gear.
dynoteck 60 bucks you bolt it in and thats it you get whole tranny metal gears ive been running all winter with 3.5 venom on a boardtrack with all tration you can handel no problems. Ray oh yea theres no slipper.

May be dumb question, but where did you find the dynotecl tranny parts? Coud you attach a link or PM me? Thanks T

www.dynotech-racing.com The slider tranny isnt listed on the site but Im sure if you call Chad he can hook you up. His user name on DODC is smitty I believe.

Thanks folks. I found the part.
