Default Losi XXX Kinwald Late Model Conversion

I am converting a Losi XXX Kinwald to a Late Model Dirt Oval Racer. I am using the Speedys Racing Conversion Kit and the McAllister Vegas Body. What are the best touring shocks to put on a conversion like this? Thanks in advance for your help.

I will be running a stock motor, but may switch to modified depending on what classes run at the track and how comfortable I am as this will be my first season on Dirt Oval.

I would try any of the Losi Touring car shocks. Even off of a Losi XXXS sedan. Also check out DirtOval.com for more info.

I would suggest Associated TC3 or TC4 shocks. Lots of parts available. They come in annodized, plain, non-threaded, and threaded. Many dirt oval cars and racers use them. Less expensive than the ones in the pic above.

Thanks. I am not sure what is the best and that was the first link I came across. I guess I figured since it was a Losi body, the shocks might work well with it.

When I had my xxxx I ran the same conversion and my car handled great. I ran the TC3 shocks and never had any trouble. I also ran the slipper eliminator and had the gears cut in the transmission. The car ran awesome.

Thanks for the information. I will have to check out the slipper eliminator. What do you mean by having the gears cut in the transmission?

Did you modify the chassis so the battery was on the left or leave it stock? I've heard people say it won't handle as good with the battery in the center, but then I hear other people that say it is just fine.

the gears cut in the tranny, is they shave both sides of the diff and idler gear to reduce the drag. meaning the gear teeth are not as wide. never tryed it but a buddy had a set for his t4 and they worked well.

I use tc3 shocks on my edm. People with b3/b4 conversions also use tc3, it it probbally the best you can use on dirt oval and parts are widely availably to rebuild them. what track are you going to race at?

Before you consider moving the battery check to see what rules the local tracks are using. The DODC rules here do not allow the battery to be moved.

Normally, moving the weight to the inside helps on left handers. Adjusting spring rates, shock oil, and shock position can improve the car's handling.

Thanks. I am probably going to leave it alone anyway. I don't want to ruin being able to use it as a buggy and I've talked to several DO racers, including Ray from Speedy's who think they handle really well as is. Given my skill level, I will have plenty to wrap my head around as is.

I haven't begun the conversion as I am currently racing the buggy, but will post pictures once I begin. I believe I am going to use the AE hard anodized shocks as they have a lot of spring options and an abundance of parts.

I received my body, McAllister's Vegas. Man, that thing is wide. I haven't cut it out, but it looks like it is going to swallow the buggy.

By the way, Ray at Speedy's is very nice and is more than happy to help with questions on conversion and setup. I think I am going to try some of his tires if we end up using foam.

Sorry for the REALLY delayed response. I am running at SmacTrac in St. Charles, MO. It is indoor off road in the Winter and this is the first year they are running Dirt Oval. I am really excited.

I just picked up another buggy to convert to a EDM/MDM (Midwest Dirt Modified - a local rule set using all buggy parts with an EDM body and motor restrictions).

What spring rate do you use on your tc3 shocks? Our track is hard packed dirt/clay. Someone told me to run 12 lbs. on the right front and then 6-8 lbs on the other tires, but AE doesn't make springs that light.
