I just picked up another buggy to convert to a EDM/MDM (Midwest Dirt Modified - a local rule set using all buggy parts with an EDM body and motor restrictions).
Hello paco62. I am also trying to decide whether to run late model or MDM. It is also called the Maryville Dirt Modified (jokingly) as that is where the MDM rules were made.

If you run at Maryville for the West Central Illinois Point Series I may see you there.

As for the tc3 springs the green 12 lbs are the lightest.6-8 lbs seems light to me, but if it works.

I would like to get to Maryville, but I am getting ready for another racer in the family (baby) and Smac is 5 minutes from my house. Maybe mid summer I will get out as I've heard great things about it.

Without giving away any secrets, what would you recommend as a starting spot for shock spring setup?

I see where one racer was using MDX 8 lb springs with 50 wt oil on a B4, but I think this setup would be for a loose bumpy track.

Personnaly, since your track is indoors, I would start with 3 greens and a silver with 40 wt.

As you probably already know track conditions and driving style will make a difference in spring rates

Low traction-bumpy = lighter springs
high byte-smooth = heavier springs

Maybe pilgrim will let you know what he ran on his Losi.

The Maryville race is not till August 1.

paco62,
Will you post pics of the two Losi XXX when they are built. I am planning on building two buggys for the oval this summer.

rced1 and Pilgrim: Thanks for the help. I will PM you once we know. They are trying to decide between rubber or foam.

dragracer72nova: Absolutely. I am just starting to put the pieces together so I will post as I go.

Let me just say that AE, TC3 shocks may be really good shocks for a conversion, but they certainly suck pro level to assemble. Nothing is more frustrating than spending 30 minutes just trying not to cross-thread something.

I am using the Associated TC3 shocks and am having problems getting the front shock ball (that goes in between the two parts of the A-arm) to fit down in there. Do I have to mod that part or does anyone have a tip? Thanks.

Most people file or grind some of the material away from the a-arm. If you do not want to allter the lower a-arm then you will need to grind or file the shock mounting ball thinner. Grinding the ball is more difficult since it is small and round.

Man, I am going to owe you a sandwich or something...

Thanks again for the tips and help. Guess I will get to filing.

Alright. I ground the A arms and everything is intact and finished. I will post a picture this weekend. Looks pretty cool. I am anxious to begin work on the body. I ordered some Green foams from Speedy as I wanted to keep this as much a speedy conversion as possible and will slap those on when they arrive and then mark the body so I can begin painting.

Getting close...
