Default Newbie Dirt Oval Questions

I am selling my Losi 8-T Nitro and going to 1/10 indoor electric dirt oval. I was interested in both Sprint and Late Model. What cars are people buying to convert to both types of oval cars? Buggies or trucks? I like Losi, but I hear a lot about people using Associated. Do you have to buy kits for different parts, or is it buying a body, different tires and making adjustments to the car? I cannot afford custom works, so i am looking for something more budget and user friendly.

I don't think they are going to run a Losi 1/10 Slider Class, so I am getting the 1/18 scale LM and want to run something 1/10 scale.

Thanks in advance for the information.

the b3 or b4 would be the best place to start for an inexpensive LM.
grap some customworks hubs and mount some foams, a late model body and your good to go. believe it or not custom works is one of the cheaper oval cars. the Putnam pro-car and the Kranzels terminator are the highter edn oval racers. If you like 1/10 the b3 converts to a kranzels terminator. (with the KRC kit)

Definitely get a B4 or a B3. A B4 would be better because parts are easier to find. I have had great luck running offroad with my stock B4 diff and tranny. I have had my B4 for over 2 years racing off and on and am on the stoick diff that I used when I built the kit. I ran stock the whole time but still!

It really depends on what type of dirt oval you will be racing on. The hard packed clay track I race at has a couple different Late Model classes. I have a B3 converted for the Limited class. We still run stock buggy shocks and suspension and a LM body. The Outlaw class I have a Krenzels Terminator setup. It uses B3 rear arms and tranny but pretty much every thing else is dirt oval specific. If you are racing on a loose dirt oval, then the buggy setup is preferred. Get in touch with the track and local racer to get some ideas.

Thanks everyone for the information. I believe it is going to be hard packed clay, as they are currently running electric off-road and that is what it appears to be.

I saw that Speedy Racing has conversion kits for Losi and Associated. I like the idea of Late Model, because I can convert for the summer and then convert back to a buggy for next winter.

Speedy kits work nice. You may need to do a little dremeling or finish work; but it will be worth it. 1/10th late model body fits B4, B3, XXX, or XX nicely. Choice also depends on what parts you can get locally. The Speedy kits that I used required tC3 shocks or short buggy shocks all the way around the car. Losi 1/18th late models are a blast. Sprint cars can be a handful for a new driver.

Default oval

first of all I wuld check with ur local trac an see what the guys are running...here in Michigan we all run 4wd cars associated tc4's, tc3's mostly some are running 4wd buggys. we mostly run 10.5 bl motors and BSR or custom works tires silver rears on front and pink rears on rear.. running the rears on the front creates some problems but are easily overcome ... we run a 5"X16" side dam and Mc allister bodys... awsome vehicle to drive.....good luck

I picked up a Losi XXX-Kinwald and am using a Speedy's conversion kit with TC3 shocks. I will post pictures when I get it done. Thanks for all the help.
