My car's got 2 configurations thanks to the McAllister Bluegrass body. One is just a standard dirt late model with a detachable roof incase we want to have a "topless" night.
The other configuration is based on something that used to be done at the 1:1 dirt tracks here in the Midwest called "Open Show Night". Engine rule? Yeah, you can only have one. Tire rule? They have to be made out of rubber. Open Show Night was a chance for the top car builders in the area to go totally ballistic with experimental car designs. Bill Prietzel wowed the crowds with a car he called
"The Wedge", a flying doorstop that had no pillars; the roof met the doors. One little sub-class of Open track was Outlaw Late Model.
My OLM setup rips off the top and replaces it with a McAllister 6" sprint car wing on 4 movable struts. 2 screws at the base of the wing allow it to be jacked forward and back, as well as alter it's angle. The other big feature of my OLM is the 6" tall by 16" long .030" Lexan side dam hanging off the left door.
Is it legal? Hell no. But does it handle? After the one and only full speed run I took with the OLM setup on dirt, I told people watching that if I had bare wheels on the back and 2 pounds of weight on the front bumper, I'd still have a hard time spinning the car out.
