Hello all. The 5th scale points series is a go and the 1st round will be here before you know it. There will be 3 classes. Sedan, GT and F1. All classes will be well represented as there has been alot of interest from racers along the east coast. Here's the schedule:
March 28................Test and tune
April 18...................1st point race
May 23....................2nd point race
June 20....................3rd point race
July 18.....................4th point race
August 15.................Warm up for the 2009 Nationals
August 26 through 30,..The 2009 1/5 Scale National (301's bid dates for Nationals)
September 19..............5th point race
October 17 or 23..........6th point race (TBA)
October to be arranged with the I-95 race as our season finale with awards presentation for the point series.
Six races with two throw outs......everyone completing four races will recieve awards and prizes.
The 1/7 scale DM/IGT cars will be run in the series if there are enough per event.
We would like this series to grow to rival that of the NATC on the west coast. The only way for that to happen is for you, the racers, to show up. We hear lots of complaints from on-road guys that there's nowhere to run, well, here you go. See you at the track.

i know is too soon to debate this, but what about points??? what point method are we using??
I would suggest since we are counting 4 races, then lets make it similar to F1, meaning
1st = 10
2nd = 8
3rd = 6
4th = 4
5th =2
and since we will be more than 5 for most races, I guess we could use 100 instead of 10 for the winner, this way we all get at least some points.
1st = 100
2nd = 96
3rd = 92
4th = 88
5th = 84
6th = 80
7th = 76
8th = 72
9th = 68
10th = 64
etc
Luis, we will probaably be using the same points system that Chris uses for the 1/10 series as the computer's already calibrated for that system. As soon as I know, I'll post the point denominations. Carlton will be getting that to me soon.
yes as mentioned I will consult with Ted X and with Chris but I think the same system (which is being used for nitros) are already in the 301 raceway computer system. So I would probable recommed that to be use to mantain because the easiness of keeping track, but I will listen to suggerstion(s) that you have just make sure i hear them in a timely fashion.
LuisR, I will tell chris to go ahead and engrave your name in the championship trophy for 2009 so that you don't have to deal with so much stress on winning this season..... I just have one question.......which one do I inform chris to engrave....the GT or Super Sedan.....please don't tell me both......I doubt it will be formula one.
LuisR, I know it on for you for this series and you are one "ready individual"....with your continual practicing and a new car I am sure you will be in the top two for points. I hope no one is taken you for granted......so look out Steve LuisR is coming.
I will have school the race director to on how to call rough driving this year. I know the last ROAR Official didn't know what to do after witnessing three different situations during one the previous nationals. I still would like to maintain that we are having fun and are not out to destroy each other cars or injury the marshalls.
Just some food for thought.....i welcome the comments from all partipants in 1/5 scale 2009 point series......and the 1/7 scale racers too
For 1/5 scale classes....
1. five minutes qualifiers..........or..................10 minutes
2. races are on Saturday and sunda will be the rain date if saturday is a wash out
3. 1/5 scale and 1/7 scale only on the track on race day ( we are schedule to race one saturday out of the month except for the national if we are approved)......NO Nitros or electrical r/c car are permitted to be on the track until the entire 1/5 and 1/7 scale program is over for the day.
I don't think the Nitros guys would appreciate us practicing during sunday if we are scheduled to race ( just my opinon)
4. THE MAINS WILL BE 25 MINUTES LONG........should the starts of the mains be standing starts or rolling starts?
If any other stuff come to mind I will post it for discussion.

Very interesting and important subjects you bring up Carlton.
1. 5 or 10 min qual ??? well, for 1/5 scale, the avrg car laps between 26 to 30 sec, so a 5 min qual would mean about 10 laps but sometimes if you need to fix (finetune your car) by the time you take your car back on track, there is no time left to turn more laps. So, I would recommend that if we run 5 min quals that we do 3 heats for qual, so that if you missed 1 or 2 due to finetunes or whatever you can still do your best on the last one.
If we do 10 min quals, then i guess we can just do 2 heats.
2. Initially I was going to suggest that the 1/5 scale guys race on a different Sunday than the 1/10 and 1/8 crowd,so that the drivers can practice all Saturday, but given the fact that half the field will be driving from out of state and that the economy is not at its best, it is a wise decision to race on Saturdays and get everything done in one day.
3. I agree, although the nitro guys will not be too happy. But then the same rules applies to us, we can not practice during Sunday Races. So, any regular Saturday and Sunday all cars are allowed on track, Saturday Schedules Race days "ONLY 1/5 and 1/7" allowed on track, and Sunday Schedule Race days "ONLY all nitro cars, except for 1/7".
4. 25 or 30 min is ok with me, as for the start of the race, well, I like both scenarios but I guess the one that all drivers will benefit from is the rolling start, the reason I say that is because I have noticed in the last couple of races at least 1 driver ALWAYS ends up stalling or spinning the car.
So to avoid having drivers driving in circles instead of sitting put on the grid so that their engine doesn't shut off (Yes Carlton I am referring to you!!!!) I suggest we do rolling starts, just bare in mind that we need to clarify which is the best way to give the the green light. We can continue to do it the way we have done it in the past, which is go around the track and as all the cars pass the last right hand corner leading into the straghaway we all wait for the go, go, go from TED or we can all drive following the car in front of us, and you can only go full throttle once you have crosses the start finish line, so in this case if I am second and I am fallowing Carlton (this is hypothetically speaking as this will never happen, in any case it would be the other way around!!!!!), then I have to follow Carlton and wait until I pass the start finish line to start accelerating, same applies to all the drivers behind me, this will allow some distance between drivers from the get go.
Again these are ONLY suggestions. I would like to hear what other have to say.
ok guys I was asking for any addtional thought that you might have other the ones I threw out there......I was just trying to start some food for thought not your personal previous experiences. I want to try cover all the bases before April is here.
Additional, here is another concern which is more of Chris concern and that is marshalling. I have discussed this problem before and it might be a problem if we have enough people to do their rotation to marshalling duties. if there is enough entries to cover marshalling it will effect the drivers running more than class. This will cause a situation that there is not enough coverage around the track for the following race. It not fair to have some one who is running one class having to marshall more than his or her required presents on the track because others are in the pits getting their next car ready.
I would like to see people run as many classes as they feel they can handle .
I am awaiting comments and concerns. And any other ideas guys please for discussion.
hey guys, i know some of you have seen me posting on the 301 Raceway page...i have a question about 1/5th and 1/7th...first of all, can someone please tell me the difference between sendan/touring car bodies and the GT class type of bodies...although I do watch road racing on TV, im still somewhat confused...my second question is this...whats the deal with the DM/IGT 1/7th scale cars? is this a spec class? who makes theses cars? im sorry, but im lost on this!! lol but if i wanna join the large scale racing, i gotta ask...thanks
Lol, I had a long conversation with Carlton about this last night. The 1/7 IGT/DM class is an outlaw class meaning anything goes. There are no restrictions. If at anytime ROAR decides to come up with a set of rules for this class, than 301 might possibly adopt them, but nothing is guaranteed.
As far as 1/5th bodies, it's pretty simple. Sedan - 4 door passenger car. GT - 2 door sports car. You can pick up 2 bodies, one for GT and another for sedan and run both classes with the same chassis.
First thank you Brian for maintianing the information flow to everyone who has asked questions here on rctech and on the other threads. I will only respond to ones here on rctech because it easier for me. Brian is right about the 1/7 scale class. Last year this was an outlaw class which means you could do anything to your car from changing the nitro engine and use tires of your choice. So, no it not a spec class. The guys at 301 raceway seen to like it that way but I will caution you in doing modifications to those cars comes some fall out.......examples: big engines destroyed the two speed in most cars. And those that choose to run foam tires tend not to finish a 15 or 20 minute main because the tires didn't last.
But after saying all of this it totally up to the individual.....when I was racing this class, my car is basically stock, I was setting the track records and finishing the races and sometimes winning the A- main with my car without breakage. But the guys are fast and they are enjoying the class when they are out there.
This year I think we will play it by ear "ON KEEPING THE INTEREST UP" meaning the same situation for 1/7 scale class will remain an outlaw class at 301.
so i take it the ITG/DM class cars are all 1/7th scale? or can they be any size? if they are 1/7th scale what companies and cars fit this requirement?? thanks
There are really only 2 brands that you want to look at. The Kyosho IGT2 and the OFNA DM1. They are both 1/7 scale and run on nitro. If you're on the fence over 1/5 or 1/7, I've run both types of cars and I can say hands down, 1/5 is an entirely different experience. These cars react so much like a full scale car it's scary. Nothing can compare to driving these cars. The only downside to racing 1/5 is that you'll be up against Luis. (Just kidding Luis, but you have to expect some reponses!) Hope to see you in the series. The 1/5 series that is!

Badkarma is asking too many questions about 1/7 scale, I hope he's not going to get a 1/7 scale car over the 1/5 scale car. If you are going to get both, then I don't care, but if you are only going to get one, then get the 1/5. Remember, this is how I look at it, to me RC cars are like women breast, and how do men like breasts??? the bigger the better, so the aswer is, get a 1/5!!!!!
